Winter BioBlitz! OK 2022

Winter BioBlitz! OK Has Begun!

Our first winter inventory began at midnight lasts until Feb 4!  That is 8 full days of biodiversity! Everyone can participate anywhere in Oklahoma using these online apps - iNaturalist and eBird.

Local artist, Lauren Rosenfelt designed the beautiful illustration for our winter event.  This logo with bobcat, junco, fish-on-a-pole grass, lichens, and post oak represents some of the iconic organisms seen in Oklahoma's winter.  You can request a free sticker or order a shirt with this design!

Due to the recent increase in COVID transmission in Oklahoma, BioBlitz! OK will not be hosting any in-person events during the Winter BioBlitz! OK 2022 week.
Little ones not ready for iNaturalist?  Our Winter BINGO scavenger sheet can inspire some adventure with young BioBlitzers.

Our Year Long Challenge Has Begun!

This year we are having four seasonal inventories: winter, spring, summer, and autumn. We will recognize the effort of our dedicated and ambitious BioBlitzers who contribute to every seasonal inventory. The BioBlitz! OK Superior Community Scientist Award will be given to all BioBlitzers who submit at least 20 different research grade species observations in iNaturalist and an eBird checklist of at least 10 species during each seasonal inventory. Everyone that completes this challenge will be given an award and invited to a special celebration at the end of the year.
Be sure to join the iNaturalist Project for our first inventory!

iNaturalist Highlight

Every eNewsletter we highlight a seasonal Oklahoma observation from iNaturalist.  On  a sunny January afternoon near Lahoma in Garfield Co. Adrianh Martínez Orozco (iNaturalist account vet-adrianh-orozco) spotted a Nine-banded Armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus).  Often seen in the winter snuffling through leaves and tallgrass, the armadillo can be oblivious to human observers.  Learn more about this species on the iNaturalist species information page.
