As of this week after much delay, the Baker Theatre Building has finally been approved for reopening! We are so excited to welcome the HTD community to our building, many of you for the first time. On CUNY first classes scheduled in Baker will read BTB. The building is located on 67th st between Lex and 3rd. Come up to the 5th floor offices and say hello!
Don't forget to get your booster vaccine as soon as you are eligible. If you need to get tested, CUNY students, faculty, and staff are able to walk-in at any CUNY Testing Site for any reason to get a COVID test.

We know the waiting has not been easy, but we are so excited to welcome HTD back (and for many of you the first time) to the Baker Theatre Building! We are the only theatre department in the city with our own building and now we can finally enjoy it. The opening will be in phases beginning with some of the larger classrooms, the library, and faculty and staff offices we will keep you updated as we are able to allow students more access to spaces. Auditions for Hamlet are Monday and Tuesday!

Auditions for our spring department production of Hamlet are on Monday and Tuesday, January 31st and February 1st, from 5:45-9:45PM in The Loewe.
Callbacks will be on Wednesday, February 2nd from 5:45-9:45PM. Sign up to audition below!
Actors interested in auditioning can choose between either preparing and presenting a 12-20 line speech of any kind, or preparing to present the part they are auditioning for in a short scene from Hamlet, we will provide someone to read the other part(s) in the scene during the audition.
All actors are expected to be available for rehearsals Mondays through Thursdays 5:30-9:30pm February 14th through March 31st and every evening and Saturday from April 1st through April 13th for performances. We will not be able to cast anyone who cannot be available for all rehearsals.
Note: we are hoping to be able to offer this for course credit to all students taking on leadership or acting positions. However, we are still waiting for our waiver application which will enable us to offer credit for an unmasked theatre class to be approved by CUNY. Assistants will receive Apprenticeship credit, along with anyone who would rather not register for course credit.
Applications for involvement as an Assistant in the various production and design areas are still open and close February 4th. Check out our website for descriptions of assistant roles and how to apply!

The Hunter Theatre Company presents chipotle chips and peanut butter brittle: A Devised Play. This performance will be held in-person at Hunter College in Hunter North 537.
Once you RSVP, you will receive more information regarding HTC's COVID-19 safety procedures including a health questionnaire and steps for clearance to enter Hunter's campus for the performance. Please note: you must be fully vaccinated to attend this event.
About the play:
With an epic prank and their beloved theatre bringing them together, what will it take for a friend group to rekindle the flame that once brought their ensemble life? This piece was created in from start to finish in four weeks by the ensemble members in collaboration, and will be presented as a staged reading

There is Still Time to Submit to HTC's Playwrights Festival
|

Submissions are now open for HTC's Playwrights Festival! You can share original monologues, scenes, short plays, and one acts. Selected scripts will have a staged reading open to the public early March at the festival.
Deadline to submit: Friday, February 4th, 11:59 PM EST.
HTC will announce which plays are selected in mid February. Number of submissions selected will depend on their length and feasibility for a reading.
It is to be determined if the festival will be in-person or online. This decision is up to the discretion of Hunter Covid Protocols at the time of the event.

Apply Now for Tuition-Free TPOC Producing 101 Course
|

Producing 101 is a ten-week, tuition-free course designed to introduce BIPOC to the fundamentals of commercial producing.
This course will equip you with all the basics of commercial producing – from development paths to financing to budgeting and more.
Using the new Broadway-bound musical GUN & POWDER as a case study throughout the course, participants will gain experience from the team involved in bringing the show to the stage. Additionally, each cohort member will select one of their own projects, or, choose a show currently on Broadway, and practice implementing some of the tools that will be shared over the ten weeks – such as creating project pitch materials for investors and co-producers, navigating the uncertain financial climate of the pandemic, and identifying the most viable development steps for their projects.
Schedule:
March 7 – May 23, 2022 (10 weeks)
Mondays 6:30–9 PM EST
There will be no classes on March 21 and May 2.
The class will be offered online via Zoom, with three optional in-person sessions. In-person sessions will take place at a location in Midtown in New York, TBD. If you are unable to attend the in-person sessions, you may still participate online via Zoom.

Paid Workshop for Designers of Color
at Boundless Theatre
|

Applications are now open for Boundless Exposed, a workshop and mentorship opportunity for emerging theatre designers of color. During this ten-week program, young designers will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced mentors in shaping an original installation-style design accompanied by a short play. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, designers may participate in-person or virtually.
The workshop will include ten collaborative design meetings over a nine-week period (February 22nd—April 18th), followed by installation and a final presentation on April 29th. Workshop participants will receive an $800 stipend upon completion of the program.
To apply, interested designers should submit a resume, a letter of recommendation, two work samples, and a letter of intent to info@boundlesstheatre.org. Oye Group is a Latino founded Nonprofit Arts Organization, an Incubator for artists local & immigrant to NYC. They provide arts education workshops for all ages.
Internship Description:
Overall remote support to all departments (Admin, Education, Development, and Marketing) with different company programs, projects, organizational and creative including but not limited to:
- Assisting with social media management
- Taking notes during meetings
- Collecting and organizing company receipts research
- Creating documents and spreadsheets to track projects
- Cleaning/organizing office and storage space.
Interns will focus on tasks for Oye's spring season’s educational programming and collaboration projects with local artists.
Duration: March - June 2022
Estimated weekly hours: 6-8 hours
Pay rate: $20/hr through the department Loewe Internship Award
