"What does Plone 6 — and its new Volto React frontend — make possible for developers and integrators?"
Plone 6 is in alpha release and is expected to be officially released this summer. The biggest change? Plone 6 will be available with two frontends (user interfaces).
The existing frontend (now being referred to as “Classic”) will continue to be available, but it will be upgraded. The “Classic” frontend will feature a host of updates including Bootstrap 5.1, ECMAScript 6 (ES6), WebPack 5, and an improved default Barceloneta LTS theme.
The new React (JavaScript) frontend, named “Volto,” is lightning quick, giving users near-instantaneous response times. Developers and integrators will be able to incorporate user interface components from the rich React ecosystem. Plus, frontend development, customization and theming will be modernized and greatly simplified.
Using the updated `pip` installation method and community-maintained Docker images, Plone deployments will be easier and more reliable.
