Loreto Highlights Update - 28th January 2022
Mary Ward Week Celebrations
Mary Ward’s birthday on the 23rd of January marks the beginning of Mary Ward week- an important celebration for Loreto Schools around the world.
Every year Loreto Schools around the globe reflect on Mary Ward’s life and learn from the values of our 17th century foundress.  To read more about her life click here.
The week has been filled with various events to commemorate her life.
Children attended assemblies based on Mary Ward’s values of Truth, Freedom, Sincerity, Justice and Joy and Fr. Paul Bear celebrated mass in our school chapel to celebrate this important occasion.
In her shoes
Year 6 took on the challenge to walk 1500 steps ( or more!) up to the Pillars of Hercules at the entrance to the Gibraltar Nature Reserve. As they did, they reflected on the herculean 1,500 mile walk to Rome, undertaken by Mary Ward to present her vision for educating women to three different Popes.

Year 1
This week we have been celebrating the life of Mary Ward, the foundress of the Loreto schools and we have used our ICT lesson to work on our number skills.

It's A Cold Night
Starry Night is one of Vincent van Gogh’s most iconic paintings. As part of our topic of Winter, FS2 recreated some amazing representations of the painting.
Big Friendly Giant
Year 3 have been reading the BFG by Roald Dahl and our language lessons have been based on the text; generating interesting sentences using adjectives and adverbs.
Faith Diary
This week’s Gospel text picks up where we left off last Sunday, with Jesus telling the people in the synagogue in Nazareth that the scriptures are being fulfilled that day in their hearing. Their initial response to him is positive, but it changes to one of violent hostility when it becomes apparent that Jesus is not interested in their praise or acclaim for his miracles, but in their repentance.  They turn on him and seek to kill him, but despite their efforts to silence him, the Word of God survived and remains alive and active to this day, inviting each one of us to hear and respond to him for ourselves.  How will we react when we hear his words?  Will we listen to him and allow his teachings to change us, or will we too reject him and seek to kill his influence in our lives, as his hearers did?
Gold Book
Well done to pupils in Lower Primary and Foundation Stage 2 who were presented with their Gold Award certificates and gold pencils.
Cushions
Another two mini cushions created in Mr Devincenzi-Clemens's Sewing Club by Year 6 pupils.  They are now going to work on making their own pencil cases, learning about construction and applique application.
Conducting Science
During their Science lesson this week Year 4 carried out an investigation to find which materials are conductors or insulators.  They had so much fun seeing if the materials would make the bulb light up.
