MHE representatives took part in a meeting with European Commissioner Stella Kyriakides and her cabinet

Euractiv interview with MHE on how the pandemic has especially strained the mental health of young Europeans
We are seeing a variety of statistics confirming that poor mental health is growing amongst the general European population and specifically in young people since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. MHE’s Laura Marchetti spoke to Euractiv about how the Covid-19 pandemic is impacting the mental health of the youth.

European Commission: European Year of Youth
The European Year Of Youth website has gone live and it is now possible to join festivals, workshops, debates, and training sessions across the EU to get engaged and connect with young European fellows.

European Parliament: Youth in Europe
In a debate on Thursday 20th of January, MEPs discussed the strong and immediate measures needed to secure post-pandemic employment, and to support the social and mental health recovery of young people in the EU, with young people at the centre of this process. A resolution is set to be put forward for vote during the February plenary session. For more information on Youth and the effects of COVID-19 on their economic and social situation, a detailed study has been released with an analysis of the impact of the crisis on young people.

European Parliament: Gender-based cyber violence
During a European Parliament debate in December 2021, MEPs adopted a legislative initiative report on tackling gender-based cyber violence with 513 votes in favour, 122 against, and 58 abstentions. The European Parliament resolution “Combating gender-based violence: cyberviolence” text underlined the economic and mental health impacts of gender-based violence, such as the experience of anxiety, depression and post-trauma effects, which can have detrimental interpersonal, social, legal, economic and political implications and ultimately affect young people’s livelihood and identity.

European Parliament Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA)
The European Parliament’s Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA) held an online event entitled 'Coping with the pandemic: Psychosocial consequences of the corona crisis'. The key topics included the stressors that are contributing to the development of mental health issues during the pandemic and the protective factors that could strengthen resilience and mental health.

European Public Health Week
The European Public Health Week (EUPHW), an initiative by the European Public Health Association (EUPHA), will take place on 16-20 May 2022. The event aims to raise awareness about public health and promote collaboration amongst the public health community in Europe. This year’s theme is 'Health throughout the life course' and 19th May will be dedicated to mental health.
