Information on meeting requirements for evidence-based training in teaching

The August 2022 deadline is approaching for Colorado school districts to meet the requirements of the 2019 updates to the READ Act, which mandates that all kindergarten through third-grade teachers complete evidence-based training in teaching reading. Each Local Education Provider in Colorado is responsible for ensuring that their K-3 teachers complete this required training.

The costs for LEPs who do not complete the requirement are high: A loss of READ Act funds for the 2022-23 school year. In subsequent years, districts will need to ensure that teachers new to teaching kindergarten through third grade also meet this requirement.

This webpage explains the requirements for teachers and districts.

The page also includes a link to communications tools, such as drop-in letters and fact sheets, to help you communicate with your teachers about the requirements.
