Community Philanthropy
In 2012, through the Monteverde Institute and with technical help from the Center for Responsible Travel (CREST) along with seed funding from the Inter-American Foundation (IAF), a group of neighbors came together to form an association that groups the material, economic and social resources already existing in the community.

Travelers Philanthropy
The group intends to unite those resources together with the economic contributions of visitors, inviting them to contribute to the financing of projects for sustainability.

Grassroots development
These projects are proposed and led by the community, based on the priorities established in extensive and participatory processes in the community.

This year we are pleased to welcome a new group of interns from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. This time, they will be visiting businesses in the Santa Elena area, to find out how much local entrepreneurs know about our organization, and how we can strengthen our partnerships. If you see them in town or they come to your business, greet them! They speak Spanish and are very excited for the opportunity to support our community.
