Good News for Newlyweds

January 2022

Diocese of Scranton
Office for Parish Life

Happy New Year!

Celebrate World Marriage Day (Sunday, February 13) and National Marriage Week (February 7 – 14)!

Consider making a promise to your spouse and to yourself that you will take some time together to celebrate and enrich your marriage.  The resources linked below offer some ideas for how you can do this through date night ideas, a novena prayer option, and other simple ways to increase your positive interactions together.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops asks that we use these celebrations, “…to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with supporting and promoting marriage and the family." The theme for 2022 is "Called to the Joy of Love".  Many resources can be found at For Your Marriage or on our Diocesan Website.

Do you believe the Diocese of Scranton listens to its parishioners? Are you challenged to use your gifts and talents to better the life of your parish and the whole Church? Do you believe the Church is transparent and accountable in its decision-making processes?

The Diocese of Scranton invites everyone to answer these three questions and more as part of the local listening phase of the 2023 Synod of Bishops, which is now underway.

Visit the Diocese of Scranton's webpage dedicated to the Synod, which includes the link to the survey in English and Spanish::

PLEASE PARTICIPATE SO THAT WE MAY HEAR YOUR VOICE, AND PLEASE SHARE THE SURVEY LINK WITH OTHERS IN OUR DIOCESE!

Lent is a beautiful time to intentionally focus on the ways you are living out your vocation of marriage.  As one of your Lenten observances this year, consider participating together in a free online program centered on some of the Virtues that are helpful in living the sacrament of marriage every day.

We cannot meet that need without you!  If you have passed your 1st Anniversary, and think that you may be called to this ministry, or if you know of another couple who may have this calling - please contact me.  (An initial conversation does not have to equal a firm commitment, but we would love to begin the conversation.)
