Hello again! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season, and are having a great new year. I've got some information about film screenings for February, and a bit of Lake County Film Festival info for you.
CLC film studies professor Chris Cooling's international film series, now in its fourteenth year, starts up again on Friday. Cooling is going on a Fulbright trip to West Africa this summer, so this semester will feature four films from Africa.
The first film is GriGris, a film from Chad about a man who dreams of being a dancer, even though he has a paralyzed leg. The film played at The Cannes Film Festival, and was Chad's submission for The Academy Awards.
It screens on Friday, February 4th at 7pm in Room C105 at the Grayslake Campus of the College Of Lake County. All screenings are free.
Over at the Gorton Community Center in Lake Forest, they are showing For The Left Hand, a Kartemquin film about 78 year-old pianist Norman Malone, who is paralyzed on the right side of his body. He compensates by mastering the most difficult music ever written for the left hand alone.
The filmmaker and the subject will be in attendance at the screening.
The screenings are Saturday, February 12th at noon and 2pm at The Gorton Center. Tickets are $15.
2022 Lake County Film Festival Screenings
The 2022 Lake County Film Festival is tentatively scheduled for November 3 - 14, 2022. The College Of Lake County is serving as our hosting sponsor again. We're looking at a very similar structure as last year, with only two main changes.
First, we are looking to have more instructional sessions on filmmaking. We are especially hoping to have sessions on writing and acting.
The second is that we will have a competition specifically for student filmmaking. The College Of Lake County has put up award money for the best student films. This is the first time the festival has offered monetary awards for filmmakers, so we are hoping to make a big deal about it.
Additionally, we are planning a spring fling!
We are eyeing mid-April for a single block of film programming at the college. Potentially a 6 hour block of a feature documentary, feature narrative, and some short films. We are hoping that the films will all be family friendly, with films geared toward anyone ages 10+. We already have one fantastic mid-length (40 minutes) film lined up.
