Blessings in Disguise: You know how things don’t always go according to plan? Ever heard the phrase, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”? We recently experienced one of these moments in life. Natasha and I planned a little getaway in the mountains of Taiwan with our boys to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Within a few hours, we arrived at our destination, but just moments later there was a little auto accident in the parking lot. Someone accidentally crunched our driver-side front panel. Thankfully, no one was hurt (we were not even in the car when it happened). Police arrived on scene to record the incident for insurance purposes. Afterwards, I had to go to the local police office to fill out routine paper work while Natasha took care of the boys. What was supposed to be a relaxing time, turned into something unpleasant.
Nevertheless, God is still on the throne! Later that evening, it just so happened that I met a Taiwanese young man who could speak English. He was very excited to meet my family. We had a nice conversation, and I discovered he lived in our city. I got his contact info, and we planned to meet up again (and share Christ with him!). Afterwards, my wife said to me, “If we went through all that today just so God could connect us with him, it was worth it.”
God works in mysterious ways. As Christians, God calls us to look at the world differently. What seems terrible—and indeed may be—God uses for His glory and our best good (remember the crucifixion of Jesus?) God is good, and there are many blessings in disguise if we stop to look for them.
Faith & Science: Last week, my Taiwanese tutor and I had an engaging conversation about faith and science. As a secular Buddhist man, my tutor believes in science more than religion, but he was genuinely curious about the miraculous claims of Christianity (i.e. virgin birth, the resurrection, creation of the universe, how we should read the Bible, etc.). My teacher became interested after reading some Scriptures. It just goes to show the power of the Living Word of God! I was thrilled he was interested and to have the opportunity to share more truths with him.
