Hi TES Community,
After 10 years of working at TES, I have made a decision to pursue other opportunities after this school year. This has not been an easy decision to say the least. TES is a very special place to me, and I will miss it dearly. My last day as Director of Business and Operations will be August 5th, 2022. We are working to find a great match for TES to fill this position. The job is posted on our Careers page on the website if you know someone who may care to take a look. Thanks to so many parents who have been so supportive of me and TES!

TES is partnering with Poe Center
Exciting announcement!: TES is partnering with Poe Center for Health Education to bring health education to TES students during Q3 and Q4. The Poe Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to positively impacting the lives of North Carolina youth through health education. The mission of the Poe Center for Health Education is to educate and empower North Carolina children, youth and their families to make choices that increase positive health behaviors. Friday, February 4th and Monday, April 11th all grades will participate in lessons including topics like safety, healthy eating, and making healthy choices. Then on Monday, May 2nd grades 4th-8th will participate in our yearly lessons covering the topic of puberty and adolescence. All of these health lessons meet NC Essential Standards for health education. More information regarding these lessons will go out closer to the presentation dates.
We are excited to be able to offer these learning opportunities for our students!

Sibling Notification & Intent to Return
Sibling Notification Form
This form is to be filled out only by the parents of students currently enrolled in TES in the 2021-2022 school year who have siblings who would like to attend in 2022-23. This form is being used for planning purposes. (Re-enrolling currently enrolled children is done on a different form, "The Intent to Return" form.)
You will have the ability to enter multiple siblings, if applicable. This form is due by February 4th, 2022.

This form is to be filled out only by the parents of TES students in grades K-7 currently enrolled in the 2021-22 school year to let us know of your student's intent to return for the 2022-23 school year. This information is being used for planning purposes for next year and is due by Friday February 4, 2022. Parents must fill out ONE FORM FOR EACH current TES student. Enrollment is critical for charter schools. We need this form returned for each student currently attending TES.

Coach Needed
Now recruiting coaches for Girls on the Run! Please reach out to Jill Panichelli (jillpanichelli@gmail.com) if you would like to learn more. Without coaches we can't offer this awesome program at our school, so please consider it!!!
Girls on the Run is a 8-week program for girls in 3rd-5th grades - but you do NOT have to have a girl in these grades in order to coach! The program inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Coaches lead small teams through our research-based curriculum which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. The spring 2022 season runs from the week of March 14 through May 21, 2022 - registration for girls will open soon.
What do you need in order to coach?
- A commitment to empowering girls with valuable life lessons
- Coach Tuesdays and Thursdays afterschool the weeks of Mar 14th-May 21st (excluding spring break)
- CPR and First-Aid Certification preferred
- Background check (provided and paid for by GOTR)
- Participate in a self-paced Online training
- Participate in the end-of-season 5k!

HEPA Filters
Last week, TESCA and TES were able to order 28 HEPA filters. Combined with parent donations, all classrooms have the size and quantity of filters they need as well as a few for high-need spaces throughout the school. Your financial support now would be greatly appreciated to help replenish these costs and support future safety needs that may arise! If you are interested in supporting this effort, please make a donation using this link.

***Spirit Wear Update 1/30/22***
Next week, those families that ordered water bottles, hats, and pj bottoms will get them. Also, all families should check their credit card statements. Markabull is refunding everyone as an apology for the delays and communications. The remainder of the order was lost in transit. They are having all items remade but could not yet provide us a date to expect them.

Read-A-Thon Rocked!
Thanks to our generous community, we successfully raised close to $18,000 through our annual Read-a-Thon fundraiser, exceeding our goal and ensuring we are able to support TES students and families in various ways next year!
As part of the fundraiser, we committed to donate 5% of proceeds to PORCH to help support hunger relief in our local community. TESCA is proud to have issued a payment of $900 to PORCH, which was presented to the organization by TES last week.

TESCA Facebook Group
Welcome and please join our Facebook group! This group is for parents / guardians, teachers, and staff of The Expedition School in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Our goal is to build a mutually supportive community. Families are invited to join after they have accepted a position at the school. You must answer all the questions (2) and agree to the Admin rules before joining.
