From Our CEO
Dear All,
Our ECG President, Frank Windeyer, joins with me in wishing you a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous 2022 to you all. We look forward to welcoming all of our current and new volunteers who will join us in the garden from Monday 10 January 2022.
I hope everyone had a relaxing and peaceful break.
Celebration
It was good to see so many volunteers at our end of year event at Cheltenham Recreational Club on Friday 3 December. I enjoyed the bowls lesson with Kevin and meeting and speaking with many of you. 🏆
Farewell
During 2021 we sadly said goodbye to some of our volunteers and we wish them well in their new adventures; for some a move overseas or interstate and for others a change of pace. Please know that wherever you go, we will always be delighted to hear from you and rejoin our team anytime.
I wish to say that our special thoughts are with our volunteers and clients who are ill or healing from injuries at this time.
Moving Location
Coralie Jensen has a new location in Eastwood on Tuesdays and from Tuesday 18 January 2022, Coralie will be moving into the CCA New South Wales office located at 12 Lakeside Rd, Eastwood NSW 2122 🏡
Coralie will be available to meet with all volunteers on Tuesdays at the new Eastwood location. 2 hour parking can be found on the street.
Our Tools of the Trade
A lovely surprise from the Fiskars Group 🪚⚙️🎉🙏 On Tuesday 21 December, Fiskars delivered a gift of tools to Easy Care Gardening. As soon as they arrived I phoned the Fiskars Head Office and thanked them very much. Thank you to Meredith Kirton for contacting Fiskars group to notify them of our need. On behalf of the whole team we wish to say a big thank you to the Fiskars Group.
Bunnings- Fun Days
On a stormy and rainy night on Thursday 9 December, two Bunnings stores invited us to their Family Fun Night. Meredith served at the stall at Belrose (see her pictured with Santa) raffling off a hamper donated by Seasol, and I was at Thornleigh selling terrariums and poinsettias (see the picture below). Also, a HUGE thanks to Bunnings in Gordon for their donations to our tool drive. 🎅🏻🎁
📻 Interview on Northside Community Radio 99.3
Thank you to Northside Radio, a NFP local radio station, for interviewing me on the breakfast program in 24 December. It was a great opportunity to thank our volunteers and donors in 2021 and call out for new volunteers.
In 2022 the COVID rules continue to apply.
📅 Advanced notice, as a My Aged Care provider, Easy Care Gardening is required to provide the booster shot details of all workers- paid and volunteers.
In late January 2022, we will again be calling out for you to send in your records of your boosters. I thank you in advance for sending these in.
💉💉 A reminder: For all volunteers returning to the garden or new volunteers starting with us, it is a condition to be double dosed with your COVID-19 vaccination before volunteering with us.
COVID-19 Symptoms and Testing
🦠If you’re experiencing any COVID symptoms, if you have been a close or casual contact of anyone with COVID-19, we would encourage you to please stand down, get a test and return when you get a negative result or have no symptoms, typically 7-14 days from exposure.
As a My Aged Care provider, we have mandatory reporting of all positive cases of COVID-19 to the department of health. If you have a positive result, please report this result to your coordinator, or to our office e. info@easycaregardening.org.au
Mask Wearing
😷 Mask wearing has returned to the outdoor construction and maintenance industry- which is us. This means whenever you visit our office, or when we have any interaction with our clients, share vehicles, or during breaks in our teams, we need to wear a mask. This includes mask wearing in the rare occasion when we we need to enter a client’s home e.g. using an amenity.
However, mask wearing exemptions do apply and include:
- If a person has a medical exemption from wearing the mask
- It is unsafe to continue to work if wearing a mask e.g. climatic heat changes or visual obstruction due to fogging safety glasses.
- When speaking with a client who has a hearing loss or who is deaf- as this person needs lip reading cues to communicate effectively.
- If you are concerned about communicating with a mask for people living with a hearing loss, I will be conducting a special session in early 2022 on communicating with person living with a hearing loss and people with dual sensory impairments (vision and hearing), but in the interim please write down your instructions, speak slightly slower and clearly and if you need to please repeat your communication until it is understood.
Morning and Afternoon Teas- holding pattern
Due to the high numbers and rapid spread of the current COVID-19 variants, all morning and afternoon teas are to be paused again until further notice. All staff and volunteers need to own drinks and food.
🍏🫖🥤 I would encourage our volunteers and staff to have regular breaks, especially during summer, but not to gather and please socially distance or take staggered breaks wherever possible.
Thank you for your understanding and patience at this time.
When it is safe to do so, I look forward to getting out to the gardens and meeting more volunteers, and I wish you all a safe, happy and healthy 2022.
