Research Bulletin - January 2022 (Issue 71)

We begin the new year with new opportunities. The Chief Scientist Office (CSO) welcomes applications for the role of Chief Scientist (Health). This part-time role is a unique opportunity for an exceptional candidate to lead research, development and innovation (R,D&I) in the Scottish NHS and ensure that Scotland retains and develops its health research, development and innovation infrastructure, and its vibrant life sciences sector. Additionally, National Research Network Clinical Lead posts in Paediatrics and Mental Health are currently open. These are important roles ensuring the effective delivery of research projects in the NHS and work to improve the quantity and quality of research within specific clinical areas.

Also this month, changes have been made by the Health Research Authrity (HRA) to the rules on deferring registration and publication for commercial sensitivity; the outcome of the Precision Medicine Alliance funding call from 2021 has been announced; a consultation has opened on proposals to improve the UK clinical trials legislation; categories for grant funding from the BMA Foundation have been announced. On events, the call for poster abstracts for the NHS Scotland Event in June has opened and for abstracts for the RCN International Nursing Research Conference are welcomed. On trials, the University of Glasgow ReDIRECT study on Long Covid is looking for participants; and new reports on CSO funded research projects published this month include a look at the use of unscheduled care by people who die from cancer, and the longer-term health impacts of social distancing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We hope you find this issue useful and as always, your ideas, feedback and contributions are welcome
