“The Necessity of Hope”

Even during a season of doubt and despair, pragmatism isn’t enough, but radical hope gets the ball rolling.

NEWSLETTER NEWS
Share The Plate
Khasi Hills Share the Plate and Tour
Get an inside look on February 6 at the progress the school in India we have been sponsoring has been making. Through the generous contributions of regular donors, Alternative Gift Market buyers, and the unexpected Christmas Eve collection, we have made significant progress toward the goal of again sponsoring our two teachers. Our funds go a long way, with just $4800 funding one teacher’s salary for the year. We hope to raise the remaining $3500 through the February Share the Plate Month beginning February 6. At the service, you will also have the opportunity to hear messages from our two teachers. Thank you to those who have already generously donated to make a difference in so many children’s lives. Many contributions are needed for this ambitious goal.
Rev. Kate on Vacation
Rev. Kate is out of town Jan. 28-Feb. 7 .
She will be attending a Unitarian Unitarian Ministers conference on line, and doing some skiing in Tahoe, California.

Thursday Night Book Club
Thursday night book club announces a new book
Join us on February 17 at 7:30 p.m.
The Sea Around Us by Rachel Carson is New York Times Bestseller with over one million copies sold.
‘It is a curious situation that the sea, from which life first arose, should now be threatened by the activities of one form of that life. But the sea, though changed in a sinister way, will continue to exist; the threat is rather to life itself.’
The Sea Around Us is one of the most influential books ever written about the natural world. In it, Rachel Carson tells the history of our oceans, combining scientific insight and poetic prose as only she can to take us from the creation of the oceans, through their role in shaping life on Earth, to what the future holds. It was prophetic at the time it was written (1951), alerting the world to a crisis in the climate, and it speaks to the fragility and centrality of the oceans and the life that abounds within them.
Please contact Alice Carnes at 704-453-4175 or
