RE Corner

Whew! The holidays are behind us and now we hibernate and wait for the sun to come back out.  Well, not exactly, we are already planning for 2022!  The new board is installed, including Terrance Pearson who graciously stepped in as secretary to fill a vacancy.  I am happy to serve as your regional executive as we map out the upcoming season.
With regard to autocross, we are installing a committee, and are planning an autocross school in April.  On the rallycross front we anticipate another successful season led by Kent Hamilton.  The Year Ender Road Rally was a good time last month and we certainly would like to hear from any members who are interested in road rally for 2022.
The national SCCA convention is starting, Jan 21-20.  It will be virtual again this year.  It is free and you are encouraged to register, just go to https://www.scca.com/pages/nationalconvention.
In the meantime, to fulfill your winter motorsports needs, check out the ice racing on Big Lake, which is put on by the Alaska Lions Sports Car Club.
My request to the membership is to… get involved! Your participation keeps this non-profit club for gearheads going.  Jump in on monthly meetings, come to events, bring your questions and ideas.  Ask if your friends and family members might want to try something new.  When you are ready, volunteer to help with or chair an event.  I know we are all busy, but whenever there is a break in ‘real life’ we will have a club that can provide #funwithcars!
Happy 2022,
Chad Barnes

Between The Cones

Is anyone done with Winter yet? I am and I was tired enough to allow the BOD to appoint me as the
Interim Autocross Steward for the 2022 autocross season. We have brought together a committee and
have been working on some very exciting things for the 2022 season.
The most important part of our season is the event schedule. We have some event dates locked in, but
do have some gaps that will be filled. The goal is to have a ten point event season. That being said, it
looks like we currently have seven dates on the calendar but will be adding more. This is the preliminary
schedule.
APR 16 th Auto-X Points #1 Alaska Raceway Park, Palmer, AK
17 th Auto-X Points #2 Alaska Raceway Park, Palmer, AK
23 rd SCCA Starting Line School Alaska Raceway Park, Palmer, AK
24 th Auto-X Points #3 Alaska Raceway Park, Palmer, AK
MAY Dates TBD
JUN 5 th Auto-X Points #4/REV Alaska Menard Sports Complex, Wasilla, AK
JUL 10 th /17 th Auto-X Points #5 Alaska Raceway Park, Palmer, AK
AUG Dates TBD
SEP 17 th Auto-X Points #6 Alaska Raceway Park, Palmer, AK
18 th Auto-X Points #7 Finale Alaska Raceway Park, Palmer, AK

A new twist to our season here in the Arctic Alaska Region will be the first season of having a Team
Championship. The Team Competition will be held at each points event and will be independent of the
regular season championship. Over the next couple of months, teams will be formed. At each event a
team winner for that event will be awarded based on finishing position of its members. This Team
competition will allow friendly competition and help develop all of our classes. This team competition
will also help in event planning and execution as each team will plan and execute the events on a
rotating basis.
Finally for 2022 we will again be hosting the SCCA Starting Line School. The Tire Rack SCCA Starting Line
schools are a partnership between the Sports Car Club of America and Tire Rack to give automotive
enthusiasts a professional, all-inclusive entry into the world of performance driving. In addition to a full
day of instruction, participants will receive an SCCA membership, entries for future events, as well as
subscriptions to SportsCar and Grassroots Motorsports Magazines. The details for registration will be
posted soon, so stay tuned to our website www.alaskascca.org or our Facebook Page and Group.
I am excited for this upcoming season and hope to see you “Between The Cones.”

The Check Point

Welcome to the Check Point. For 2022, the Arctic Alaska Region hopes to jump start the Road Rally
Program. For those unaware, our Region was founded on the desire to hold sanctioned rallies in the
State. Cheryl Babbe had the desire and drive to create and entire Region to be able to bring like minded
individuals together to have fun while testing their cognitive skills while enjoying their automobiles.
Over the past few years the Region’s Road Rally Program has had a reduced schedule but the Region
Leaders would like to see a return to the great programs of the past. We are looking for individuals who
would be willing to pull together a committee to plan and conduct events in 2022. Until a permanent
Steward is appointed, and interim steward will be appointed and we will plan a monthly Trek Rally.
More information will be coming soon on the first Trek for 2022.
If you or someone you know would like to be a part of this planning let our Regional Leadership Team
know and we will get you in contact with other like-minded individuals.
Until the next time, “On to the next Check Point!”
