February Newsletter 2022

Happy February everyone!

I don't know about you, but January and February can be some of the hardest months. I think it's the bitter cold and not being able to spend time outside.

Last year, I decided to shake things up. My theory was if I did something different artistically during the "rough months", I might not feel so bleh.

Since December, I've been exploring ceramics at Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio. Working with clay has been just what I needed. I love learning new processes, working sculpturally, and playing with color in different ways.

Well, I hope you're all surviving and thriving during our inevitable cold months. Below you'll find some other news and a bit of fun.

Onward as always,

Mary

I'm enjoying making these "not a masterpiece, wonky pots".

Decorating 3-D forms is something I'm trying to figure out. It's hard, but fun.

One of the biggest things you're told in ceramics is "do a test". I've been seeing how different colors look on different clay bodies, and figuring out my imagery.

Like I said, these aren't masterpieces....just tests, but there are some nuggets of info that will be appearing in future pieces.

News:

My piece "Are We Laughing Yet?" will be in an online exhibit at the end of February. Stay tuned for info.

More Good Stuff:

"Four Magenta Dots" was added to a corporate collection.

At the casa:

Betty continues to make our lives exciting. At 6 months old, she's a teenager.....enough said.
