Utah State Flag Redesign

The Department of Cultural & Community Engagement, under the direction of Governor Cox and legislative leaders, has launched the “More Than A Flag” campaign to invite Utah residents to provide suggestions – ideas of colors and symbols or drawings of flag designs – for the state’s flag redesign process. 

Utahns can share their perspective of “how they see Utah” by either participating in the survey or by submitting their own flag design before April 30th, 2022.

State Scenic Byway Committee Vacancies

The State Scenic Byway Committee is looking for volunteers to fill several vacancies. The Committee is in need of three local elected officials representing counties, towns, or cities, as well as one individual representing the private business sector. The Committee meets quarterly and has the responsibility to designate new byways, review segmentation requests, and advise UOT on the promotion of scenic byways. Appointees may serve 2-year or 4-year terms. If you or anyone you know might be interested or a good fit please contact Flint Timmins fdtimmins@utah.gov.

Utah Outdoor Recreation Grants

The 2022 Application Cycle for the Utah Outdoor Recreation Grants is now open! The Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation offers grants that can support the building of trails and other recreation infrastructure projects throughout the state. Last year, $7.5 million in grant funding was awarded to communities across the state.

The 2022 Grant Cycle Application is open now through March 18, 2022, at 5 p.m. For more information, visit https://business.utah.gov/outdoor/grants/

Public Relations Update - Submit Story Ideas!

The UOT PR team continues to seek unique, inspiring story angles and destination news to share with national, regional and in-state media. We are accepting partner story idea submissions that align with our current monthly pitch topics. We are always interested in receiving long-lead story ideas including: "what’s new" (new attractions, hotel and restaurant openings, programming, etc), holiday/seasonal happenings and Forever Mighty® topics (programming, people, etc. that aim to educate visitors about responsible travel practices to minimize impacts on our state's cultural and natural resources).
