Reform Gravel Mining Coalition

The recent launch of the Reform Gravel Mining Coalition (RGMC) could be very helpful for our campaign to stop the Lippa Quarry. The partners in the coalition are Environmental Defence, Council of Canadians, Water Watchers, and the Wilderness Committee. The RGMC is demanding a moratorium on all new applications for gravel mining in Ontario, and this has been endorsed by more than 30 community groups, that are opposing new applications for gravel mining in their communities. Watch the video on their website and learn how you can help limit the devastation caused by gravel mining in Ontario.

Its also worth reading the FAQs (frequently asked questions) page, where you will learn that the government of Ontario has already authorized the gravel mining industry to extract thirteen times more gravel each year than is required to meet long term average annual consumption for the province. Please check out the Take Action page to see what you can do to support the RGMC campaign and bring about a more rational approach to regulating aggregate mining in Ontario.

As we have experienced in our campaign to stop the Lippa Quarry application, policy reform with regard to regulation of the gravel mining industry is long overdue, and hopefully the RGMC will help to bring this about!
