The Winter Marches On…
With the final days of this long, cold Winter upon us, its hard to not be dreaming about Spring. Draw inspiration from the Scandinavian Lifestyle Trends: Hygge, Lagom, Lykke, Fika and Sisu, to enjoy what is left of this Winter season, in turn creating exhilaration, vitality and a renewed sense of mindfulness while being present in the moment. Whether you choose to snowshoe through a quiet, snow covered forest, cross country ski on a beautiful, remote trail or to build a bonfire on the frozen, ice crystal encrusted beach at Lake Superior, something rather magical happens when we embrace the outdoors and all of the benefits the elements have to offer.
Northwind Co-Op is your headquarters for creating a cozy, healthy and balanced life, from a wide range of supplements, essential oil infused candles and relaxing bath salts, to a wide assortment of organic teas and coffees, we can assist you in creating your very own Winter Ritual. Stop in to see our always evolving assortment of wine, beer and cider, along with organic mixers to create delicious cocktails! Winter brings a hearty, bountiful selection of locally grown, organic vegetables, locally raised meats, a new assortment of small batch cheeses (vegan included!) and the launch of our very own Wine Club! Shop online for your convenience.
As always in this time of need we are still offering curbside pickup and at home delivery service. In response to the CoVID-19 pandemic you can do all your ordering online and have it dropped at your door for a contact free experience. The service will be an additional $5 to your order.
Visit our website to place your online order http://northwindcoop.org/online-shopping/
We are working hard to bring you relevant and nutritious products. If you can't find something in store, we'll do our best to special order it for you at an additional 15% off. Full case orders for members are welcome.

President’s Quarterly Report
Who is ready for the snow to melt?! It seems we’ve hit the winter lull, but we at the Co-op are all dreaming of spring and wonderful new things to come! This past holiday season was a joy to finally get back to gathering with friends and family, and the Co-op saw a very positive increase in sales. Cathy and the NNFC team have really brought the Co-op to life and our store is reflecting the needs and wants of our community more than ever. On top of that, our new Board of Directors are really settling into their new roles on the Board and on all of our sub-committees. Despite reaching our slow season in the store, the amazing brains behind the Co-op are hard at work bringing new products, new events and new programs to our community. Please stop into the store, check out our website or visit our Facebook page to find all of the information on what’s new in 2022!
Reminder to all Co-op members, Board meetings are held every 3rd Tuesday of the month and are open to any members that would like to join us! After each meeting there is a sub committee meeting and we encourage all members who would like to help the Co-op to join a sub committee. There will be a schedule posted online for all the sub committee meetings. Our current sub committees are Financial, Marketing/Outreach, Future Planning and Facilities. Please consider lending us some of your experience in any of those fields!

Manager’s Report
My oh my, what a busy year it has been for us already! It is the year of the tiger, which is said to be about making big changes- a year of risk-taking and adventure. The co-op seems to be diving right into the year of the tiger as many great things are on the horizon!
We have an upcoming grant opportunity, we are developing a program to feed hungry kids, we are hosting wine tastings and more at First Friday events and recently took part in a Fashion Show fundraiser as a part of planning for Pride this summer. We also received a recognition for our dedication to working with local farmers, producers and artisans from a top rated Midwest Agriculture publication. You can find the whole article here if you care to give it a read.

The grant opportunity ahead will be my biggest focus for the next month. We are thrilled to announce that we made it through the initial acceptance phase of a very large funding opportunity that could help us upgrade and expand in several ways. Graham and I are putting together the final proposal and hoping for the best. The grant deadline is in March and decisions will be made no earlier than the end of May.
The grant seeks letters of support and we came up with the idea to have a brief letter of support for all interested co-op shoppers to stop in and sign. We hope with hundreds of signatures on this letter, it will have an impact on what a difference this grant could make for the co-op community as a whole. Next time you stop into the co-op, at check out please ask to sign the letter of support! This letter will be available to sign until March 10th.
We are also happy to say our staffing is strong with all the familiar faces we all know and love. We are proud to be a small, strong and dedicated group who keep this place thriving. Thank you to our four front of house employees, to our behind the scenes book keeper, to our board of directors and our many volunteers. It really takes a cooperative effort to keep this wheel turning and we would be nowhere if not together. That includes the support of you.
Much Love,
Cathy

The Face Behind the Displays
Over the last couple of years Rozina Doss has worked for the co-op as our incredible bookkeeper extraordinaire, however her talents go so far beyond numbers. When you walk into the co-op, in the back left corner of the store you will find local artists’ products for sale, including candles, jewelry, hand sewn bags, beautiful scarves, etc. Rozina’s fiber art products are amazing by themselves, but it doesn’t stop there. Rozina has a history with public art decorations including a mayoral inauguration, interactive sculpture in Downtown Minneapolis, the Orchestra Hall’s lobby decoration for an award show and an award-winning storefront art project ‘MadeHere’. No matter the season or social cause, Rozina’s co-op window displays are eye-catching, relevant and professional quality. Next time you stop by the co-op take a moment to really look at Rozina’s beautiful storefront art and her fiber art products, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Greetings to All,
As we look forward into Spring and the renewal of all things, there are many new exciting things going on at the Northwinds Co-op. It is a slow time of the year for many businesses and our numbers ended in the red for the quarter. However, this was due to upfront costs in purchasing. One of these was the purchase of wine for our Wine Club. The wine club has been a great success. We are anticipating increasing interest as we continue to promote our lovely wine selection that has been brilliantly curated by Heather Hillman.
Grant applications are presently being processed for improvements being considered in the coming year. Improvements with the front windows should help with heating bills as well as keeping it cool in the summer. Other projects being considered are roofing and flooring upgrades.
Under steady and competent management and dedicated staff we are anticipating the continuing growth of financial success. We look forward to leveraging that success in serving our community! Wishing everyone health and happiness, growth and prosperity.

Around The World With Cabernet
Northwind Co-op
Winter 2022
Wine Club Offering # 2
In the chill of winter, there may be no better feeling than warming your bones with a crackling fire and a rich glass of red wine. Why is it, though, that red wine is the perfect remedy for an icy winter night? The answer is quite simple: red wine tends to have a higher alcohol content than its crisp cousin, white wine. This creates a natural thermogenic effect, which warms the body from the inside out. Beyond this, red wine is best enjoyed at a warm room temperature, a quality that highlights its full flavor. Red wine also pairs with hearty meals, making it the perfect way to end a cold day.
This Months selections are your exclusive passport to a journey around the world with six Cabernets from different countries, regions, climates and soils. You will get a global view of the best the varietal has to offer, allowing you to experience six unique representations and to discover the beautiful bounty of this versatile varietal.
You will receive two bottles of each wine per case.
