Weekly Update Issue 41 - Thursday 24 February, 2022

Taranaki Programme Weekly Update

Today has seen the largest number of new Omicron cases yet nationally, at more than 6,000, and 36 of those were in Taranaki. So make no mistake that you will be affected very soon, either by contracting the virus or because you are the close or household contact of someone who has.

Are you ready? You need to have been fully vaccinated and boosted (if eligible) to ensure that any symptoms are as mild as possible and make it harder for the virus to be transmitted to a loved one.

It's easy to get your booster shot - you can book an appointment through Book My Vaccine, or call 0800 28 29 26, or just walk-in where this service is offered. Bring your whānau, too, we can administer boosters at the same time as child doses so the whole family is protected.

Has your household got a plan for when you are isolating? Do you have sufficient food, or have a friend or family member who can deliver groceries contactlessly? What happens if they have to isolate? Do you have paracetamol and other medications?

If you haven't thought about these questions yet, the now is a good time to find answers! For more information and advice about what you will need to do if you contract COVID-19, or are identified as a contact visit Isolation and care | Unite against COVID-19 (covid19.govt.nz) More information is also available at TDHB - COVID-19 care in the community

The next few weeks are going to be tough going, but if we all play our part by wearing masks, sanitising our hands, observe social distancing and, most  importantly of all, get vaccinated, we can slow the spread and reduce the impact on our essential services.

To keep up to date with the situation in Taranaki, like the Taranaki District Health Board Facebook page and check TDHB - COVID-19 regularly for updates.

Where can I get vaccinated?

Check out the Taranaki DHB website for the latest updates on clinics and other important information

Tui Ora, Ngati Ruanui and Ngaruahine regularly post information about clinics on their Facebook pages so are well worth checking out.

COVID-19 Vaccination • Taranaki • Healthpoint has information about community pharmacies and GP clinics - not all our partner-providers are offering paediatric vaccinations so it's best to check (and book) before you go.
