SA Harness Racing launches the new statewide “SA Cup Series” at Globe Derby Park on Saturday night with the running of the Globe Derby Fodder Italian Cup, Valley Horse Transport Gramel Trotters Cup, and SAHRC Derby.

GLOBE DERBY PARK - SATURDAY 19TH FEBRUARY 2022
Race 1: TAB LIVE SKY RACING VISION CLAIMING PACE
CHARMING MAJOR (3) was a winner three starts back defeating STAR WRITER by 1.9 metres from gate four. He gets a very similar draw tonight against a similar field. He will be right in the finish if at his best.
LITTLE RASCAL (5) is stepping down in class and poses a major threat tonight.
STAR WRITER (2) and BREACH THE BEACH (8) are also chances.
 
Race 2: STAY COVID SAFE PACE
CRUISING BELLEW (3) has been knocking on the door to win a race recently. He ran second behind HILLTOP BREEZE last week beaten by 4.9 metres. He looks like a major chance tonight.
SOHO BOB (5), FINAL ROUND (8) and VAPAR JACK (1) are also chances.
 
Race 3: SAHRC VOLUNTEERS PACE
WHISTLE ON BY (2) is racing in career best form at the moment. She has won three of his last four starts defeating SUTTER MAN by 11.3 metres last start. Tonight’s race looks a little tougher but her recent form suggests she is good enough to win.
LEVI JIMMY (1), EASY ROLLING (8) and BETTOR BEONTOIT (7) look the next best.
 
Race 4: 2022 VALLEY HORSE TRANSPORT GRAMEL TROTTERS CUP
SCRUFFY DOOLAN (8) returns from a spell after a super preparation last time in. He hasn’t been seen at the trials but if anywhere near his best form tonight he is going to be a major winning chance.
GODOFTHUNDER (10) returns to SA after a successful run of form in Queensland. If he is anywhere near his best, will be right in the finish.
BLUE COMAN (7) is incredibly risky but will be a major threat tonight if he can bring his best form.
MIRACLE RISING (11) looks the next best.
 
Race 5: 2022 GLOBE DERBY FODDER ITALIAN CUP
JIMMY MACK (8) has a tough draw tonight but he keeps finding ways to win races. He is a major chance tonight if he brings his best run.
HEZACROCWATCHER (6), ZADAKA (4) and WRANGLER (5) are also chances.
 
Race 6: SAHRC DERBY
JAWSOFLINCOLN (6) returns from a two month spell. His form towards the end of his last preparation wasn’t his best form. If he can bring his best form tonight and show his old gate speed, he will be a major chance.
IM THEMIGHTYLUCY (3) was impressive in a trial on Monday. She is a threat tonight.
EVER HOPING (2) and IDEAL MELODY (5) are also chances.
 
Race 7: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY PACE
BIEN HOA (3) ran a strong race behind GIANT JACKSON first up from a spell last week. He should be able to move into a forward position early and run a strong race against this field.
ABOVE AVERAGE (1) will appreciate the inside draw and run a strong race if he is at his best. He can be very inconsistent though.
THEBATTLESJUSBEGUN (8) and ROCKING WITH CHARM (5) are also chances.
 
Race 8: SAHRC MEMBERS TROTTERS MOBILE
SUPER ANGUS (1) hasn’t had a lot of luck over his last three starts. Tonight he returns to a mobile start which will suit him. He also gets the benefit of gate one and will be a major threat.
PIESRIDINGSHOTGUN (3), REGAL ASSASSIN (7) and GHENT (5) are also chances.

GLOBE DERBY PARK - MONDAY 21ST FEBRUARY 2022
Race 1: MOBILEROLLING.NET PACE
FINAL ROUND (1) will appreciate the inside draw tonight. His most recent effort on the 12th of February he was beaten by 3.9 metres and if he can repeat that run will be hard to beat.
BEANCOUNTER (6), VAPAR JACK (4) and PASSIONATE PURSUIT (5) are also chances.
 
Race 2: JOHN ROTHE VIDEO PACE
CAPTAIN THUNDERBOLT (3) was a last start winner defeating IMA WORKINCLASSMAN by 12 metres. He should be able to find the lead and will be hard to run down if he can repeat last weeks run.
VICTORY MEDAL (6) has won two of his last five starts. Worth strong consideration.
STARTUP (4) and LETS GO THERE (5) are also chances.
 
Race 3: TAB MAKE A DATE WITH PLAY PACE
OUR HOLLA STAR (3) was impressive in a recent trial here at Globe Derby. If he can bring his trial form to the races, will be a major chance.
STYLISH HEAVEN (1) could run a very sneaky race from the inside draw if she brings her best run.
IMA WORKINCLASSMAN (2) and SAMARA FURY (7) are also chances.
 
Race 4: HYGAIN TROTTERS HANDICAP
BACARDI BINDI (5) returns from a lengthy spell. She was racing against some tough competition towards the end of her last preparation. If she can show her best form first up today, will be a major chance.
IMASOCIALBUTTERFLY (1) joins the Aaron Bain stable with no local trials to speak of. She must be respected against this field.
LIBERTY SONG (7) and STRAWBERRY MOUSE (4) are also chances.
 
Race 5: JUST WRECKING TOYOTAS PACE
FOREVER BETTOR (5) joins the Dean Girardi stable and matches up really well against this field. If he can bring his best form he will be a major threat.
KICKAPOO CREEK (2) will find it a little tough from the draw but her recent Port Pirie form suggest she is good enough to feature today.
MISTER CHEESE (8) and LENNY TEE (7) are also chances.
 
Race 6: ROCK N ROLL WORLD USA PACE
ROYAL CADENCE (1) was a winner two starts ago at Mildura. Her recent Victorian form has been consistent. She will get a nice run through from the inside draw. She is a strong chance.
TOLD YOU TWICE (5) has been knocking on the door for a win since coming to SA. He will be coming home strongly over the concluding stages of the race.
SUNFINE (3) and GROWLERS LAST (4) look the next best.
 
Race 7: TAB VENUE MODE PACE
ROSIANO (4) has been edging closer to a win recently. She was beaten by 1.5 metres last start behind MAKE HASTE at Port Pirie. Will be a strong chance today if she can repeat that run against this field.
MASTER CARIBBEAN (5) returned to the winners list last start defeating HALF MOON BEACH by 1 metre.
THE IDES OF MARCH (7) could very easily find the lead from gate seven.
MACKALAN (2) is also a chance.

ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE FOLLOWING RULES AND AMENDMENTS RECENTLY ADOPTED BY HRA.

New Rule 23B -
23B.       (1) A horse cannot be nominated for a race if it is a horse as defined by sub-rule (2) and it has not satisfied the provisions of sub-rule (3).
(2)          (a) A horse that has not participated in an official trial or race within the twelve month
period prior to the race.
(b) A foreign horse that has been imported into Australia and has not participated in an official trial or race within the six-month period prior to the race.
(3)          The horse must participate in an official trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
New Rule 66(i) -
66.         A horse may be disqualified from a race or placed in a lower finishing position in a race if the horse -          
(i) is driven in a manner prejudicial or detrimental to the reputational interests of harness
racing.
 
Rule amendment 75 -
75.         (2) Subject to any determination made under sub rule (1) the following applies –
(ll) where a horse is declared to race in a claiming race and is subsequently withdrawn on veterinary advice the trainer shall at the time of its withdrawal or as soon thereafter as the Stewards may direct produce a veterinary certificate stating precisely the reason for the withdrawal.
 
Rule amendment 96A(4)(a), (b) -
 
96A.       (4) The owner or trainer of a registered horse at the time of its death shall:-
  1. In the case of a horse which dies whilst in the care of a licensed trainer immediately notify the Stewards of the death.
  2. In any other case notify the Controlling Body or Stewards of the death within twenty-four hours of its occurrence.
Rule amendment 97A -
 
97A.       Application to change the gait of a horse shall be made in such form as the Controlling Body may determine.
  
New Rule 99A –
 
99A.       (1) A person shall not perform, attempt to perform or authorise the performance of the procedure of blistering.
(2) For the purposes of this rule blistering means the application or injection of an irritating substance onto or into soft tissue of a horse to create an inflammatory reaction.
(3) A person who fails to comply with sub-rule (1) is guilty of an offence.
  
Rule amendment 101B(1), (2) -
 
101B.     (1) Any time a horse suffers bleeding from one nostril and that blood has originated from the lungs the trainer shall immediately and in any event within twenty-four (24) hours notify the Stewards.
(2) If the Stewards determine that a horse has bled from one nostril and that blood has originated from the lungs the horse shall not be eligible to race until it has trialled to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
 
Rule amendment 101C(2)(a), (b), (c) -
New Rule 101C(2)(d) -
 
101C.    (2) If the Stewards are satisfied that a horse has suffered atrial fibrillation the Stewards shall:
  1. After the first episode stand the horse down from racing for a period of 14 days, require the horse to undergo an ECG prior to a trial and then trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
  2. After the second episode stand the horse down from racing for a period of 28 days, require the horse to undergo an ECG before trialling and then trial on two occasions to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
  3. If the horse suffers a third episode within twelve months of the second episode bar the horse for life.
  4. If the horse suffers a third episode more than twelve months after the second episode stand the horse down from racing for such period as they consider necessary and require the horse to undergo such veterinary examination and complete such trials as they consider necessary.
Rule repealed Rule 155A(1), (2) –
 
Please note the Rule, routinely referred to as “the lapped on” Rule, has been repealed.  The processes applied by Stewards in the case of placed horses breaking gait towards the finish of a race will revert to that which existed prior to November 2019 and as prescribed in HR 155(1) and (2).
 
Rule amendment 156(2)(a) -
 
156.       (2) (a) A driver shall only apply the whip and/or the rein in a wrist only flicking motion whilst holding a rein in each hand with the tip of the whip pointed forward in an action which does not engage the shoulder.
 
Rule amendment 170(4), (5) -
 
170.       (4) A driver shall not:-
(a) Attempt to or allow his foot or leg to come into contact with the hind legs of the horse he is driving;
(b) Attempt to or allow his foot or leg to be placed in the immediate vicinity of the hind legs of the horse he is driving.
 
               (5) A driver who fails to comply with any provision of this rule is guilty of an offence and in relation to sub-rule (4) the Stewards may in addition to any other penalty disqualify the horse.

2022 SILVER SALVER SA YEARLING SALE

The online catalogue for the 2022 Silver Salver SA Yearling Sale to be held at Globe Derby Park on Sunday, March 27 is now available to view here
The sale features yearlings by last season’s leading first crop sire Always B Miki, champion juvenile sire Art Major, 2021 North American leading first-season sire Downbytheseaside, the NSW Derby winner and Vicbred champion Major Secret and the highly successful American sires A Rocknroll Dance and Sunshine Beach.
Yearlings will be eligible for a two-year-old Sales race in 2023.
An all-age section will immediately follow the yearling sale.
Printed copies of the catalogue will be available for distribution from February 16.
