Building Assets/Reducing Risks (BARR)

February is “Show the Love” month at Tech. Many student groups organized events that let Tech students and staff show love and care for each other and our community. A good example of this is the BARR I-time lesson that Ms. Jen Doom conducted in her 9th grade science classes. Lollipop Moments is an I-time that builds on the assets of positive identity, support, social competency, and positive values.

Students viewed a TED talk on Everyday Leadership by Drew Dudley in which he talked about how we are all leaders in our everyday lives. He told an interesting story that happened to him to illustrate this idea. Students discussed this TED talk together. They were then told to think of a person who has been their “lollipop moment." Students created cards and attached a lollipop to it. Ms. Doom delivered the cards that week. They were given to teachers, students, staff members and even sent to other buildings. Lots of smiles that day, “showing the love" at Tech!

Staff found joy bombs in their collaboration spaces on Thursday morning!

In honor of Black History Month, the Tech Jazz Combo performed C-Jam Blues by Duke Ellington and Chameleon by Herbie Hancock as students entered the building on Thursday, February 17.
