Winter Update

In this edition of our newsletter you will learn more about our Assistant Director, Mike Rosser, our intern, Hannah, and our after-school program at Walton Oaks.

Meet Hannah, HFA student and intern

Hannah first began attending Hope for Augusta when she was in the 3rd grade and is now a Junior at Laney High School! After high school, she desires to go to medical college with the goal of becoming an OB-GYN. Hannah has served as an intern for HFA since the summer of 2020 and joined our Walton Oaks Adventure Center Junior Staff team in January of this year. She is a sweet young lady and it has been a joy for HFA staff to watch her grow in engaging and serving students. She recently told us that she has grown in having patience with kids and others through this internship.  We also recently discovered that Hannah has an amazing gift in engaging and interacting with students with special needs and are looking forward to seeing this gift continue to develop in her. Please pray for Hannah as she works to finish well in high school, grows in her relationship with Christ, and learns how to lead and serve others through this internship.

Meet Mike Rosser,
Assistant Director of HFA

First, I would just like to say thank you so much for your partnership, your prayers, and the support you give. I wouldn't be able to minister to our Hope for Augusta students and families without your support. It is sobering to think that I am in my 9th year with Hope for Augusta. When I moved to Augusta 9 years ago from the small country town of Monticello Ga, I had no idea how the Lord would use me to impact the students and families of downtown Augusta. I was nervous and did not know anything about Augusta except that Laney and Josey used to beat my high school football team everytime we played and that it could get really hot down here. I was first exposed to doing ministry by Campus Outreach when I came to faith in their college ministry at Georgia Southern. I had no idea that the Lord would call me to urban ministry. I’m so glad He did though. All I knew was I had a passion for reaching and ministering to the underserved and the Lord was sending me out to plant the seeds of the Gospel and trust him to make them grow.

My time in Augusta has been both rewarding and humbling. Rewarding because God has done some incredible things over the years. One way I have seen God’s faithfulness is in the afterschool program I run. I have been leading my afterschool program at Walton Oaks now for 9 years. I started out with around 8-10 kids and now we have 20-25 kids who faithfully attend Monday-Friday.

My time has been humbling in Augusta because I thought that I would be teaching my students everything but they have taught me so much. God was already at work before I got here and He will be at work long after I’m gone. I’m just glad that the Lord has called me to be a part of Hope for Augusta and the work He is doing downtown. One verse I frequently pray through for my students is Isaiah 60:22. This verse says “The least of you will become a thousand, the smallest a mighty nation. I am the LORD; in its time I will do this swiftly”. I strongly believe that the Lord will take the students I minister to and turn them into a mighty nation for His glory but he will do it in His time and not mine. Therefore, I will faithfully keep planting the seeds of the Gospel and trust the Lord to make them grow. Thank you all for all the many ways you partner with me and I wish you well.
