Your Action Needed on Southeast Sport Management

Now’s your chance to influence the next iteration of sport fishing regulations affecting you and your customers. The Board of Fisheries is preparing to decide future Southeast sport management March 13-22 in Anchorage, with deadlines for written comments due Wednesday, February 23 and virtual testimony sign up required by Thursday, March 3rd.

The Board will consider management changes for chinook, demersal shelf rockfish, slope rockfish, sablefish, and more. If you care about the future opportunity your customers will have to harvest state managed species, you can’t sit this out!

Priority One is comment and public testimony on king salmon management.

Proposal 82 is the departments straw dog approach at reforming sport king salmon management in Southeast to conform to new Pacific Salmon Treaty requirements but leaves damaging gaps in sport harvest opportunity at low abundance that need fixing. You need to let the BOF know how important it is to maintain sport opportunities for both resident and non-resident anglers, to provide both food and sufficiently attractive limits that will keep outside angler dollars supporting our families and communities.

For ideas of what to include in your comments or testimony on king management, go here.

We’ve condensed all sport proposals into this document for your review, and provided a sport proposal summary here.

Written comments can be submitted through Wednesday, February 23 here. The tentative agenda and important details about participation and public testimony are posted here. YOU MUST REGISTER IN ADVANCE TO PROVIDE TESTIMONY REMOTELY OR IN PERSON!

We’re more than happy to discuss proposals with you and help you prepare to engage in this process. Give us a call anytime!  (907) 723-1970

While we’re working hard to support you and your business, this is the time when your action will make the difference. ACT NOW!
