Learning from Patients to Provide Accessible Healthcare and Effective Communication for Patients who are Blind or have Low Vision

In this presentation, American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) will share the experiences of people who are blind or have low vision when seeking healthcare based on focus group research on patient health experiences. These experiences identify ways providers can operationalize the ADA's requirements for healthcare accessibility to provide better care for these patients. Medical professionals and healthcare administrators will develop techniques for working directly with patients and understanding where training and facility design can contribute to high-quality, accessible patient care. New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council: Conference Access Funding

The New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (NYS DDPC) is seeking grant applications that support the participation of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), family members and caregivers at conferences, workshops, events, and other activities related to the DDPC approved State Plan. The specific objective of the funding is solely to assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) their families and caregivers in attending conferences and events, thereby granting them greater access to information, training, and other activities which will increase their ability to affect public policy.

David Smith, AAIDD is hosting a webinar with co-author Michael Wehmeyer in which he will discuss the inspiration, creation, and impact of this essential piece of literature in the field of IDD.

- AAIDD Released a special editing of Inclusion in September 2021 focused on racial and ethnic equity for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in society. The articles within the issue explore different topics related to intersectionality and the experiences of non-white individuals with IDD, as well as their families and caretakers. This webinar features a panel of authors published in the September 2021 Inclusion special issue sharing their expertise and research.
