We are thrilled to announce that Alyson Luzetsky has joined the Decatur Makers team in a part-time role as our Operations Specialist!
She brings eight years of work experience with CRM maintenance, scheduling, office management, marketing, communications, and other operational roles.
Alyson's currently assisting with management of our CRM system (Neon), helping us streamline on-boarding of our project-based workshop educators, and supporting Staff with a new goal management system to enhance teamwork and productivity.

For our 6th year, we hosted Cub Scouts to build their Pinewood Derby cars on Feb 5 and 12! Special thanks to our partner, Legacy Park, for supporting us with a large open in-door space to hold the events safely. And a big shout-out to all of our incredible volunteers who stepped up to make this event happen.

On February 17 at 6pm, we will host a virtual gathering for Entrepreneurs to share their successes and challenges and to let Decatur Makers know how we can better support them and their progress. We hope this is the first of a regular meet-n-greet as we look to create an active community for entrepreneurs to collaborate with and empower one another.

We had the pleasure of being introduced to the Maker Lab in Chawand, India and learned about their methodology and how making is being used to inspire kids to solve problems in their tribal community. We exchanged tours of our makerspaces and shared projects, and we look forward to further collaboration among youth and entrepreneurs across continents.

As a community partner, Decatur Makers hosted NY Hall of Science and GBH Boston‘s Design Squad Maker, a pilot program that engaged children (ages 8-11 years old) and their caregivers in the engineering design process in out-of-school environments. Together, families came up with problems they wanted to solve, brainstormed solutions, built prototypes, and tested them. We held 3 workshops in our makerspace, one workshop with our partner at the Decatur Housing Authority, and 2 workshops with our partner Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics and Computing (CEISMC) at Georgia Tech. Our feedback in testing this program supports the final app and program that will be offered publicly across the country later this year.

Member Steve F has continued working on his DIY car! From 3 wheels to four wheels to body changes with soft cover additions and inside upgrades, it's been a labor of love for over 4 years. #makersgonnamake
