FUNDING

1.  Funding to support holiday clubs across North Yorkshire this Easter

Apply for FEAST grants to run free activities for children receiving benefits-related free school meals this Easter.

Anyone with the skills and insurances to run great activities can apply, including if you’re a sole-trader, a community group, charity, business.

Deadline 1:  1 March at 12 noon
Outcome of application: 9 March
Deadline 2: 22 March at 12 noon
Outcome of application: 30 March. 

 


2.  Knabs Ridge Wind Farm Community Fund - Main Grants

Opening on Friday 18 February 2022 the Fund gives community organisations in Hampsthwaite Felliscliffe, Hampsthwaite, Birstwith, Norwood, Darley and Menwith, Haverah Park with Beckwithshaw and Fewston in Nidderdale the opportunity to apply for up to £2,500 for projects that will benefit local people.

3. The KFC Foundation Community Grants Programme
 
Grants of up to £2,000 for charities, community interest companies, unincorporated clubs and unregistered charities, with a turnover of less than £300,000, that support and empower young people.

 


 

4. Apprenticeship levy funds to help take on apprentices in North Yorkshire

Employers who are looking to start new apprenticeships can apply, particularly where the funds will create an apprenticeship that would not have been created without the funds. This can include new starters or existing employees undertaking an apprenticeship.

Receiving employers can include those in the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector.

 

5.  Energy for Tomorrow (EfT)

The mission is to tackle climate change by awarding grants of up to £100,000 to community projects that are energy related and can demonstrate a social impact in the communities they serve. 

A 3-year regional programme was launched on 16 February, starting in the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber.

EfT offers funding, expertise and support to initiatives that can accelerate the energy transition and enable a more inclusive and sustainable future.
This includes reducing carbon emissions, changing societal and customer use of energy, and helping communities improve their energy management to deliver real benefit to the local area.

It could be £20,000 to install an e-vehicle charging point in your community centre, or £100,000 to fund a transformational new community energy tool.
Application window closes 31 March.  

 


6. Get Fishing Fund

The Environment Agency and Angling Trust have announced an additional £100,000 investment to encourage more people to give fishing a go for the first time in 2022.

Funded from fishing licence sales, grants of up to £2,500 are available to benefit angling-based projects. The funding can be used to help purchase equipment, fishing tackle and resources to run fishing events and activities to give people the opportunity to get into fishing.

The deadline for applications is Friday 18 March 2022.
 



7. National Heritage Fund

A reminder that the next deadline for applications to the National Lottery Grants for Heritage for amounts between £250,000 and £5 million is 12pm on Thursday 24 February 2022, to receive a decision by the end of June 2022.

The impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic means priority will be given to heritage projects that: 

  • promote inclusion and involve a wider range of people (a mandatory outcome)
  • boost the local economy 
  • encourage skills development and job creation 
  • support wellbeing 
  • create better places to live, work and visit   
  • improve the resilience of organisations working in heritage 
     


8. Social Enterprise Support Fund – Round 2 (England)

The National Lottery Community Fund is offering grants between £10,000 and £100,000 to social enterprises to help them recover from the pandemic or to help them work with communities that are recovering.

Applications open at 1pm on Monday 28 February and will close on Thursday 24 March 2022.

 


9. Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust (Round 1)

Round 1 of the trust’s 2022 funding is offering grants of up to £1,000 to UK charities (with income and expenditure between £100,000 and £2 million) for projects supporting early career performers and creatives.
Applications close on Monday 28 February.

 


 

10. 2022 Windrush Day Grant Scheme

The annual Windrush Day Grant Scheme will provide up to £50,000 to individual projects, events and activities which will mark the fifth annual Windrush Day on 22 June.
Application deadline: 18 March 2022.

 



11.  The Fidelio Trust

Grants of up to £5,000 for Art projects, particularly for Music, including Opera, Lieder, Composition, and Dance.

Fidelio aims to provide support for individuals (over the age of 21) or groups of exceptional ability. Applications need to be supported by Institutions, Colleges, Arts Festivals or other similar arts organisations with recognised relevant expertise.
 
Applications are not generally considered for activities for people under the age of 21, or for course fees, capital items or retrospective expenditure.
 
Next deadline Thursday 26 May 2022.

 



12. ReTrain to ReTain: New funding available for coaches
 
This fully-funded scheme aims to provide skills, training, and targeted support for 25,000 volunteer coaches, as well as 25,000 sport and activity professionals, who have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Applications are open until 31 March 2022, and support will be provided to the first 25,000 eligible applicants.

 

13. Neighbourly: giving platform supporting small charities and local good causes

You can sign up to receive grants ranging from £400-£10,000, remote or in-person volunteer support for one-off or ongoing projects, and food and product surplus from leading supermarkets and retailers to support your food bank, community fridge, lunch club or more.

'Make a promise to your donors. Write it down, publish it, then live by it. Too often, fundraisers market at supporters, rather than getting them on their side to create solutions together.'

16. Time to flex: Embracing flexible working
 
This new report from NCVO and ACEVO includes many practical tips, which it is hoped will support leaders, managers and individuals to approach flexible working in their organisation.
 
The report recommends flexibility to become a central pillar of equity, diversity and inclusion, and wellbeing strategies.

 


17.  None of us can achieve alone what many can achieve together

Whether it’s a staff forum to help improve working environments, informal communities of interest, joint policy action, collaborative funding bids or just letting go of differences and coming together to put pressure on policy and decision makers – together we are strong.

Remember that locally we host the Connecting Ripon Network and Harrogate District VCS   Chief Officers and Chairs Group where we connect to share, learn, ask and offer!

 

18.  Charities must do more than survive, they must change too
 
A recent NCVO blog looking at ‘asset-based’ working; looking for the strengths, assets and potential of people and communities, not just their problems or needs.

As charities we can, and must, attempt to weave asset-based working into every area of our practice, from governance and leadership, to fundraising, campaigning and support work.

 

19.  The Public Experience: Mental Health and Well-Being

For their latest report HealthWatch North Yorkshire asked organisations to identify the top three issues facing their service users or members. Of the 14 areas listed, the majority of organisations indicated GP services as the top current issue, followed by mental health and social care.

21.  Children's and Young People's Mental Health and Wellbeing in North Yorkshire 

North Yorkshire CYP MH Services are running a scoping project to support the transformation of services. They are inviting professionals who work with children and young people in North Yorkshire to share their views on the support available for children and young people’s mental health.
 
Help improve support for young people and their families in North Yorkshire.
The survey only takes 10 minutes to complete. 
Survey closes 31 March 2022.

22.  Volunteer Co-ordinator Network meeting: collaborative volunteering practices in a rural context
17 March, 10am – 12pm via Zoom  

At this Community First Yorkshire event, the guest speaker is Rob Jackson, director of a consultancy and training company that helps engage and inspire people to bring about change. Rob will lead a discussion on the challenges and considerations for volunteer management in a rural environment.

 

23. Yorkshire Circular Economy Festival
15-19 March

Online festival with free participation. Celebrate civic and voluntary Circular Economy initiatives already underway in Yorkshire, spark new ones and strengthen the community.

 

24.  Safeguarding Children Masterclasses

The North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Partnership provides free virtual safeguarding training to all partners on the last Friday of every month

Developments in Safeguarding Masterclass, 25 February 2022
This Masterclass is suitable for anyone working with children and young people across North Yorkshire and will enhance knowledge in relevant and current safeguarding developments.

Child Exploitation Safeguarding Masterclass, 25 March 2022
The masterclass will give partners an overview of what child exploitation and contextual safeguarding looks like across North Yorkshire, what some of the themes and trends are that for young people, especially those aged 10 -18.


 

25.  Universal Credit Deductions training online via Zoom
Thursday 17 March 2022, 10.00 – 12.30

This new course from the Welfare Benefits Unit will provide an understanding of the payments that can be recovered or deducted from Universal Credit, including maximum rates and disputing deductions.

The sesson is relevant to anyone who works with working age claimants in receipt of Universal Credit. The course is updated to bring in any changes as they occur so works well as a refresher.

26.  Frances receives her MBE at Windsor Castle

The HADCA team is very proud this week as Frances Elliot, our CEO, received her MBE award at Windsor Castle. 

It was awarded in the 2021 Queen’s birthday honours for services to the community during the pandemic.

It’s fantastic that the work of our Harrogate district voluntary and community sector has been recognised.  Frances accepted the award on behalf of all the local charities and volunteers who contributed so much to our community, and continue to do so every day. 
 


 

27. Volunteering opportunities of the week with Girlguiding 

Can you help to keep Guiding units in Harrogate and Bilton open?
Help girls to realise their full potential, build their confidence, have adventures, learn new skills and have loads of fun – and you will too!
There are lots of young members and waiting lists of more young people wanting to join.
Volunteers who are happy to lead units are specifically needed and will receive free training.

28.  The Town Runners Beginners Group 

For people looking for a new challenge or who would you like to run a 5k but are put off trying to do this on their own. 

It’s a friendly and sociable group with a fully supportive and qualified run leader and assistant aimed at guiding you through to your 5k target.

 



29. Enter a team to the 2022 Great Knaresborough Bed Race

31. Our Planet, Your World
 
This February half term there are lots of free family friendly attractions and activities that are out of this world popping up in town centres and public spaces across Boroughbridge, Harrogate, Knaresborough, Masham, Pateley Bridge and the city of Ripon.
 
Our Planet, Your World is a week-long programme of entertainment and family themed activity celebrating the planet we live on. Explore the towns and communities across the world that we are twinned with, the oceans that cover two thirds of our planet and the many ways we can look after our world.
