Dear Parishioners,
Right from the beginning, I want to invite you to our parish ZOOM meetings on Beatitudes. Our group is growing and I can clearly perceive that there is audience in our parish that appreciates these meetings very much. And I need to tell it out loud - I am among them. Here is my reflection and some reasons why I think you should join us too.

It's very difficult to share...
We knew it from very beginning of Synodal process. That is why we (I, Alyssa and Ann) had very real expectations (even inch from the bottom seemed like Mount Everest for us). To share means to be vulnerable in community. Therefore sharing of graces is one of the most challenging endeavors. I hear it from all around the corner when my brothers in priesthood are sharing their experiences with this Synodal Process. Therefore I am even more surprised with our little group and I am very grateful for this experience. I am not hiding my face that some of you participated and you feel that it is not for you. You know that I value your freedom. But it will not prevent me from inviting you again to come and to try it.

...but there's a lot of healing in it. 
Let me explain it and I will use the wisdom of wiser people than I am. Irvin D. YALOM is American psychiatrist, a professor emeritus of psychology at Stanford University. His book "The Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy" is must-read of all who are into the study of soul. Let me be clear: I do not consider our ZOOM sessions to be any group therapy whatsoever. However, there is a lot to learn from Yalom about group dynamics. Particularly because Yalom was very sceptic about group therapy in the beginning. But after first taste of group work, he realized very important moment that can be simplified in following manner: group therapy is healing by itself. To illustrate it, Yalom writes: "Members of a cohesive group feel warmth and comfort in the group and a sense of belongingness; they value the group and feel in turn that they are valued, accepted, and supported by other members."
Let's take a moment and stay with this quote for a while. I want to ask you to perform following task: replace the words 'cohesive group' with 'Church' and word 'group' with 'parish'. Seems like very perfect definition to me. And let's add Yalom's 12 therapeutic factors of group to complete the picture: altruism, cohesion, universality, interpersonal learning input and output, guidance, catharsis, identification, family re-enactment, self-understanding, instillation of hope, and existential factors.

Is such a parish possible?
Good question. We do not live in ideal world and there is no ideal parish. But I think we should strive to make parishes home for several groups like this. Especially in fairly large parish, people cannot know everyone. But if parish contains groups where several members of cohesive identity are sharing their graces (rather than rumors, I need to mention that there's tremendous difference between these two) then we are on the right way.
In fact, also because of such an encounter in my home parish, I have become priest (I am not saying that it was only this one but this experience certainly stuck with me for the rest of my life). When I was 14, new assistant priest came to our parish. Young, enthusiastic and zealous for the Word of God. He gathered us - teens - one by one and then over one extended weekend, he invited us to live the community. This created relations surrounded around Jesus Christ that helped us move ahead in our lives. Within me, it created a state of belongingness to the Church. Next 4 years brought several challenges for me as a young Christian and I have faced many of them with disgrace (which I am not necessarily proud of, of course, yet the whole experience somehow belongs to me) and yet I have always found my way back. And over time I began realizing my desire not to leave "the courts of the Lord" (c.f. Psalm 84). 

Long story short
ZOOM Sessions on Beatitudes are great. Yes, they are beyond my expectations. They remind me a lot of healthy group dynamics and therefore I have great hope that they will bring spiritual revival to our parish. God Bless You!
