Shoppe Object becomes part of IMC
Shoppe Object, a design-focused home and lifestyle tradeshow and its Shoppe Online B2B e-commerce platform, have been acquired by International Market Centers (IMC). It is planned to maintain the autonomy of Shoppe Object with the existing team handling sales, marketing, and management under the direction of Shoppe Object co-founder Jesse James. Jesse James will join IMC as vice president and show director, reporting to executive vice oresident, chief customer and marketing officer Dorothy Belshaw. Co-founders of Shoppe Object, Deirdre Maloney and Minya Quirk, will remain involved in a consulting capacity. Shoppe Object was launched in 2018 by James. Shoppe Object grew from the 100 home and lifestyle brands of its inaugural event to its current annual mix of 500+seminal design brands and emerging makers. The physical market is held in New York City each February and August. "This partnership makes strategic sense because IMC recognises the significant value in Shoppe Object's core origins," said James. IMC plans to expand the existing semiannual show in New York City and explore regional extensions in established IMC venues and other major cities by combining creative vision, exhibitor feedback and business needs. Asia-Pacific Week brings industry together in person
As travel within Asia remains highly restricted, UFI is launching a different format to bring the industry together in person: Asia-Pacific Week, taking place as decentralised events from March 28 to April 1, 2022. The week-long programme of activities will comprise a series of local events across the region, allowing UFI members and the wider community in Asia to gather, in person, where they are based. Led by Mark Cochrane, UFI's regional director in Asia-Pacific, the event will offer all industry professionals the opportunity to network and share ideas. "The aim is to bring our members and all industry professionals together for networking, content and some fun. The industry in the region has not had the chance to come together since 2019, at the UFI Asia-Pacific Conference in Tokyo and UFI Global Congress in Bangkok. The pandemic has encouraged us all to think more creatively, and the UFI Asia-Pacific Week will be a great way for our community to gather locally and look ahead to better days," says UFI's Cochrane. The UFI team in Hong Kong is working with UFI Ambassadors from China, India, Thailand, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Japan, amongst others, who will be responsible for organising a variety of local gatherings – from charity runs to cocktail, dinner and cultural events. Kai Hattendorf, UFI's CEO & managing director, adds: "Keeping communities engaged and connected is certainly a challenge, but we say: challenge accepted! That's why UFI is working to provide our colleagues across Asia with opportunities to come together, in person, in their own countries. Through our group of UFI Ambassadors, participants can network and debate key issues facing our changing industry in Asia and the world!" (kf)

Transition to one-stop shop
The spring fair is returning to Frankfurt: In a first step starting February 2023, Messe Frankfurt will draw together the three consumer goods fairs Ambiente, Christmasworld and Creativeworld under the heading "Home of Consumer Goods", to take place concurrently from February 3/4 to 7, 2023. "Frankfurt is thus the one-stop shop for the global consumer goods industry. Here, the lifestyle of generations is decided and shaped. We are thus offering the industry reliability and growth in challenging times. This is where business will be done from February 2023, where people will finally exchange ideas again and define the trends that consumers around the globe will be able to experience and purchase onsite and online over the next twelve to 18 months," explains Philipp Ferger, vice president of Consumer Goods Fairs. The synergy-rich product mix for HoReCa, Contract Business and Concept Decoration will be supplemented by additional product groups and presented in a completely realigned hall structure. Messe Frankfurt already offers the largest sourcing platform outside China. The sourcing offering, which was previously integrated into the four leading trade fairs, will be expanded in Frankfurt from 2023 under the label "Global Sourcing". At other times, it will be positioned at other international locations to open up additional markets and sales channels for producers and offer easy access to buyers who previously did not source globally. To complement this, Messe Frankfurt is also planning a series of near-sourcing events, local business formats in selected sourcing countries. From summer 2023, Messe Frankfurt also wants to launch a lifestyle and inspiration platform focused on brands for the city and region. It is scheduled to take place at the second half of the year. This new offering will replace the previous summer platforms. (ch)

UFI provides country-by-country overview
Although the situation remains incredibly difficult for the entire exhibition industry, in Europe there are many reasons to be optimistic for a broader restart: More and more countries are announcing an end to coronavirus restrictions, either in part or entirely. Within one week alone, The Netherlands, Norway and Sweden joined Denmark and the UK in announcing the lifting of restrictions, including the reopening of exhibitions. Other countries such as Spain and Greece have stayed open. Countries that imposed new restrictions have had to endure another wave of postponements and cancellations, some for the third year running. "Yet now the balance between cautiousness in public health policy and the necessity to reopen business and industries, seems to be tipping in the latter's favour", UFI states. To give an overview of the precise status, UFI has compiled a country-by-country guide on the latest restrictions in various European countries, including information about some of the next major trade shows that are planned in each country. Exhibitions 3.0 framework released
Strategy consultancy AMR International sees four main ingredients for the future success of exhibitions: North Star, customer needs, way of working, and measures of success. The consultants have wrapped this "winning formula" in the whitepaper Exhibitions 3.0. The whitepaper aims to show how organisers can adapt and succeed in these new market conditions. It builds on from AMR's original and widely adopted Exhibitions 2.0 toolbox and Community Catalyst concept. As executive chairman, Denzil Rankine explains, "It was a different world in 2018 when we launched Exhibitions 2.0. Back then, the focus was on improving and transforming events. Now Exhibitions 3.0 addresses, in practical terms, the organiser's journey of transformation, including on the road to Community Catalyst." Rankin continues: "The focus is on customer closeness and using data, technology and insight to generate valuable connections across both physical and online channels. Many of the organisations we work with call this 'digital transformation', but we call it Exhibitions 3.0. It's more than digital, which should simply be endemic." Exhibitions 3.0 is a framework and series of steps that enable organisers to secure longevity for their brands through improved customer relationships. The steps include honing a future vision, or 'North Star', and establishing new ways of working. These are interlinked with new metrics and measures of customer success. (kf)
