NJ First Lady Tammy Murphy to be Awarded 2022 Parent Champion Award
The Family Success Institute’s Learning Community partner Parents Inc. is hosting a virtual Annual Parent Leadership Recognition Event on Wednesday, February 23 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. to honor parent leaders and promote Family Success. The statewide leadership recognition celebration Speak Up, Take Action, Create Change! is free and open to the public.
This year, Parents Inc. will present First Lady Tammy Murphy with the highly coveted 2022 Parent Champion Award for championing the cause of mothers and infants with her statewide, multi-agency campaign initiative, Nurture NJ.

An Update from the Learning Community
Our Learning Community met on February 10 to hear updates and announcements, as well as a fantastic presentation from Megan Lepore, Learning Community Member and Director of Development & Sustainability, Camden Promise Neighborhood | Center for Family Services. Check out a video of that organization’s work gathering information from the community in order to serve that community better. Our Work Groups also reported on their progress as they continue to develop their position papers and define their work going forward.

Important Legislative Session Ahead
As the new legislative session gets underway, The Family Success Institute continues our work furthering legislation that supports families. Assemblyman Reginald Atkins (D-Union) has reintroduced the Community Recovery and Family Success Act (A828) in the Assembly with Assemblywoman Shavonda E. Sumter (D-Bergen and Passaic) as co-sponsor. The bill would establish a Council for Community Recovery and Family Success. We are also working to reintroduce the companion bill – the Bill of Rights for Infants, Children, Youth, and Families, which recognizes and protects certain rights for this group instead of treating them as privileges. We are hopeful that these bills, important pieces to helping families succeed in the Garden State, will move quickly through the legislature this year.
