Last-Minute Weekend Getaways
As we head into the long weekend for President's Day in the U.S., many of us here at British American Household Staffing are thinking about quick getaways to enjoy good food and a change of scenery. Whether you have time to travel a longer distance or prefer to be within an hour of home, we've put together our top choices for weekend getaways to relax, recharge, and have fun with the whole family.

Terranea Resort, California
On the coast of Southern California is Terranea Resort; the 5-star hotel boasts incredible views of the Pacific Ocean, a full spa, four pools, a golf course, and several restaurants highlighting farm-to-table dining and seasonal produce. Drop the little ones off at the Kids Club Discovery Garden then stop by the resort's adults-only pool or enjoy a marine massage in the spa, featuring a Mediterranean algae known for its detoxifying properties. Afterwards, pick up the kids and head to the family-friendly pool featuring a 140ft waterslide, splashpad, and poolside games.

Park Hyatt, Beaver Creek, Colorado
Beaver Creek is one of our top recommendations for family-friendly destinations. The destination is welcoming and full of amenities the whole family will love, including heated pathways, a skating rink, hot chocolate, and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies awaiting you at the bottom of the mountain after a long day on the slopes. We love the ski-in/ski-out Park Hyatt for its thoughtful perks for children, including free s'mores and the option of a "Camping Turndown Experience" featuring a cozy in-room tent and sleeping bag, faux-fire, luxury pajamas, and campfire snacks. The hotel also features several fireside dining options, as well as a pool and spa. In addition to skiing, the hotel can arrange snowboarding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, and, in the warmer months, golfing, hiking, fly-fishing, white-water rafting, and hot air ballooning.

Bel Air Hotel, California
Those in Los Angeles might consider heading to one of our all-time favorites, the Bel Air Hotel, for a staycation. Book the elegant Grace Kelly suite to enjoy a quiet garden patio and private plunge pool. Walk the historic grounds to enjoy lush foliage, fountains, and ponds with the hotel's stunning swans. The food in both the bar and main restaurant is excellent and the staff and concierge go above and beyond. Call ahead and request a picnic lunch for two on the grounds or a private four-course tasting menu (plant-based options are available!) on your patio.

The Maker Hotel, Hudson, New York
For those on the East Coast, we recommend making a quick trip upstate to The Maker Hotel. The historic hotel features "themed" suites ("The Artist," "The Writer," "The Architect), as well as traditional single rooms, studios, and larger apartment-style spaces. All are designed with incredible attention to detail, lush materials, and whimsical surprises (a varied library of books, original paintings, and curio objects from the owner's private collection, among other details). They have several eating and drinking options, including a wood and leather candlelit lounge with hand carved fireplace, a fresh juice bar, and an airy restaurant housed in a glass conservatory

Whiteface Lodge, New York
For New Yorkers willing to go a bit further upstate toward Lake Placid, we love Whiteface Lodge for the whole family. The lodge-style luxury hotel features onsite activities for all ages and interests, including swimming (indoor, outdoor and hot tubs), tennis, fishing, ice skating, pickleball, bowling, campfire s'mores, a movie theatre offering a rotating selection, and an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. Not far off the grounds, the hotel can help you arrange gondola rides, helicopter tours, and even a visit to Santa's workshop (open summer months and holiday months only). As an added perk, the lodge's restaurant, Kanu, was named the coziest restaurant in New York state by Food & Wine - the menu highlights winter favorites like baked onion soup with fontina, duck confit, and veal Milanese, alongside lighter additions like beet and hazelnut salad and arctic char ragout.

Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Oxford, United Kingdom
Head out of London for a picturesque country escape at Oxford's Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons. The stunning hotel includes several historic buildings set among lush gardens, including an organic garden, a Japanese garden, and a mushroom valley. The hotel's restaurant has two Michelin stars (and has maintained them for over 30 years) and uses produce from the hotel's gardens. The hotel offers both cooking classes and gardening classes with options for every level, including children's classes, basics classes, and specialty courses.
