Dear SBAIC Members,
This newsletter is full of great articles on how small businesses are important supporters of local capacity development. We chose this topic out of concern to ensure that a focus on “localization” does not mean there is no longer a need for support from U.S. small businesses. In fact, this newsletter shows the many ways in which we are the ideal partners for local firms, as they tend to be closer in size to our member businesses, and we appreciate their range of issues and how to manage growing pains. This timing is also excellent in that we are looking forward to working with the newly appointed USAID Director of the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) Kimberly Ball as well as her Deputy Directors, Jamala Peyton and John Watson. At the beginning of February, Ms. Ball spoke at our Member Meeting and agreed to prioritize her work with SBAIC on this topic and others. I would also like to thank our Communication Committee Co-Chairs, Monica Jerbi and Arvi Gowda, for their excellent work on this newsletter and keeping our website up-to-date.
Sincerely,
Anita Campion
SBAIC Executive Committee Chair
