Dear Readers,

We are appraoching you with the regular ENAI newsletter. We hope to brighten up your day with some good news, at least a little, in these difficult times.

In the issue:

ENAI Supports Ukraine

Let us start with few words of support for Ukraine. We stand with Ukraine and we encourage everybody - please, support Ukraine in any way you can. Financially, by welcoming refugees, or just by sending few supportive words. We also want to thank the Russians who are bravely, publicly expressing their disagreement with this war.

ENAI supports Ukraine with following symbolical steps:
  • waiver for ENAI membership in 2022 for all Ukraine-based institutions
  • conference-fee waiver for ECAIP2022 for participants from Ukrainian institutions
  • all conference fees for ECAIP2022 coming from participants from Russia will be sent to a charity supporting Ukrainian refugees
One small thing that we can do is to inform people in Russia about the real situation about the war. Please, if you can, share the news with your friends in Russia. For example, you can share with them news in Russian provided by Czech news server Novinky.cz.

ENAI Summer School 2022: Call for Proposals

We are delighted to announce the 2nd ENAI Academic Integrity PhD Summer School which is planned to be organized as a face-to-face event by Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University Centre for Academic Integrity in Canakkale, Turkey. The province of Canakkale lies on both sides of the Dardanelles and has lands both in Asia and Europe continents. Assos, an historical site in Canakkale, is known as the settlement where Aristotle opened the first philosophy school. Thus, the opening lecture of the summer school is planned to be in Assos with an additional trip to antique Troy city which is located in Canakkale as well.

The 1st ENAI Academic Integrity Summer School was organized as a five-day online summer school collaboratively with Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Turkey; the University of Wollongong in Dubai, UAE; and Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences, Lithuania on behalf of ENAI last year. The program included various topics from academic integrity which were delivered in two 3-hours sessions per day. The lecturers were 21 academic integrity experts from all over the world. Last year, there were over 40 participants coming from 13 different countries including Australia, Canada, Croatia, Iran, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Qatar, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and Vietnam.

By means of this “Call for Proposals”, we would like to invite scholars to inform us about their interest to teach at the summer school. Since we are aiming at PhD students, we expect from our summer school lecturers to hold a PhD degree.

We are planning to make the summer school “free” once again since we regard this event as a great opportunity to promote academic integrity. For this purpose, we would like to clarify that there will be no “honorarium” for the lecturers. Lecturers are expected to get funds from their home institutions or other funding sources to teach at the summer school considering their travel and accommodation expenses. We are already in contact with possible sponsors to provide some funds for a few lecturers to contribute to their travel and accommodation expenses; however, we cannot guarantee this option.

Should you wish to join us at the ENAI Academic Integrity PhD Summer School as a lecturer, we kindly invite you to submit your proposal before the 24th of March 2022 via this web-based form. The ENAI Academic Integrity PhD Summer School 2022 Organizing Committee will confirm the lecturers and the programme depending on available funds and the topics covered. The summer school programme and the confirmed lecturers will be announced at the European Conference on Academic Integrity and Plagiarism 2022 and PhD students will be invited to apply for the summer school.

On behalf of the ENAI Academic Integrity PhD Summer School 2022 Organizing Committee, we would like to thank you for your interest in our summer school.
Brief Information about the Summer School:
      Location: Canakkale, Turkey
      Dates: 20-28 August 2022
Topics: Any topic related academic integrity
      Instruction type: Face-to-face

Examples of Ethical Challenges and Dilemmas Related to Open Science

The ROSiE project (Responsible Open Science in Europe) is looking for cases exemplifying ethical challenges and dilemmas related to Open Science. Please help them by sharing your stories!
The ROSIiE project is coordinated by the University of Oslo. One of the project partners, University of Tartu has created an online platform where case descriptions can be shared with the ROSiE project. The call for cases is open to anyone who has experienced, heard or read about particular challenges in Open Science practice. ROSiE is specifically interested in examples of ethical dilemmas, conflicts of value, disagreements or problems in the context of Open Science for which it seemed difficult to find a solution. The collected cases will be used to develop training materials on Open Science for researchers, students and citizen scientists, as well as to create an open-access online resource.

Case descriptions can be submitted via this website. The website also provides further information on the background of the study. It is possible to submit cases anonymously, and non-anonymous case descriptions will be anonymized before publication.
We will approach you with the regular newsletter in two months. If you want to share with us, and with other recipients, any interesting news from your country or some curiosities from the area of academic integrity, we will welcome your contributions. Please send them to info@academicintegrity.eu.
Feel free to share the newsletter with your friends and colleagues, or send them this subscription link, the newsletter is open to everyone!

Sincerely yours
European Network for Academic Integrity team
