Open Recruitment for Two-Day Mindfulness-Based Resilience Training Workshops for Frontline Health Workers and Law Enforcement Personnel
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources in partnership with West Virginia University's Office Of Health Affairs, Marshall University and Mindful Badge training facilitators are recruiting 200 frontline health workers and law enforcement personnel from West Virginia to participate in Mindfulness-Based Resilience Training (MBRT). The two-day training will help to improve mental and physical well-being along with preventing compassion fatigue, burnout, and attrition.
Participants may include:
• Foster care families
• Social Workers
• Child Protective Services personnel
• Case managers and coordinators
• Emergency services personnel
• Behavioral health personnel
• Law enforcement personnel
“Burnout is a well-documented negative occupational consequence among frontline health workers and law enforcement personnel, placing these workers at physical and mental health risk”, said Dr. Zullig Keith, Principal Investigator of the project and Professor and Chair at WVU School of Public Health.
MBRT has emerged as a novel approach to address the pressing need of effective interventions for first responder resilience in the context of acute and chronic stressors inherent to law enforcement and other frontline worker occupations and may be especially helpful for workers in West Virginia “where they report high exposure to traumatic events and face significant barriers to accessing mental health treatment”, says Dr. Zullig.
Training opportunities will be held:
• February 14-15 at Huntington Cabell County 4-H Camp
• February 17-18 at Huntington Cabell-Huntington Health Department
• March 21-22 at Martinsburg Blue Ridge Community and Technical College
• April 21-22 at Martinsburg Blue Ridge Community and Technical College
• April 25-26 at Charleston John Paul XXIII Pastoral Center
• May 12-13 at Wheeling University
• May 17-18 at Beckley WVUIT
• June 16-17 at Parkersburg WVU
• June 20-21 at Lewisburg State Fair Grounds
• June 23-24 at Morgantown Event Center
There is no cost to this training, and all meals and materials will be covered. The only cost is your time and willingness to participate. Participants will need to work with supervisors to allocate time to participate.

PUTNAM COUNTY
The Putnam County Board of Health is accepting comments on a second round of proposed revisions to the Putnam County Clean Indoor Air Regulation.
 
Written comments may be sent by mail to Putnam County Board of Health, PO Box 892, Winfield, WV 25213 or by e-mail to putnamlhd@wv.gov.  All comments must be postmarked or received via e-mail by February 19, 2022, to be considered by the Board of Health.
 
The Putnam County Board of Health will meet at the Putnam County Health Department
at 11878 Winfield Road, Winfield, WV, Feb 22nd at 6 pm.
