Have a Heart!

Valentine's Day is a time celebrate every kind of love! Different kinds of love bless us in different ways; whether you're showing your friends, partner, children, pets, God, neighbours, or even strangers (hello, random acts of kindness!) that you care, the world can always use more love.

If you are a grant recipient, a donor, a scholar, Board member, or friend of the Foundation in some other capacity, we are honoured to be a part of the many ways you show your love and reflect God's love to the world!

The United Church of Canada is encouraging communities of faith to mark Valentine's Day a little differently, and celebrate the 10th annual Have a Heart Day! This youth-led reconciliation event brings together caring Canadians to help ensure First Nations children have the opportunity to grow up safely at home and be proud of who they are. The Church offers ideas on how to take part: united-church.ca/news/have-heart-day-february-14-0 have a heart day
I have loved you with an everlasting love;
therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.

Scholarship Applications Due Soon

There is one month left to apply to the Foundation's various academic award opportunities for United Church of Canada ministers, ministry students, and lay people. I highlight two of the available opportunities below and thank you for sharing this information with your network!

The W. Norman McLeod Trust Fund was established in 1972 with the intent to constitute a trust fund for the promotion, advancement and encouragement of theological education. The W. Norman McLeod Scholarship is available to ordered ministers in the United Church of Canada for post-graduate study (with consideration for current special needs of the Church, such as leadership in ethnic ministries, rural ministries or women in ministry).

The Clifford Elliott Spirit of Saskatchewan Ministry Trust Fund was established in 2006 in memory of Clifford Elliott, a native of Saskatchewan and an ordained United Church minister. Cliff believed that the Saskatchewan values of co-operation, economic justice, and respect for the land and for its peoples have a universal application and will enliven the ministry of the Church wherever they are embraced.

The Clifford Elliott Spirit of Saskatchewan Ministry Award provides financial support to United Church of Canada ministry personnel or laypersons who have completed an M.Div. degree (or equivalent) and who intend to pursue graduate theological studies for Th.D, Ph.D, or D.Min. degrees.

A Prayer for All Hearts

On this day when we are surrounded by imagery of love and hearts, let’s join our hearts in prayer...

Loving God,
please bless and protect our hearts and all who come and go from them.
May our hearts be filled with welcome for friends and strangers alike.
May all hearts know joy, compassion and support.
May those hearts filled with grief feel the warmth of your care and relief from worry.
May those hearts filled with anger know your healing love.
May you plant in our hearts delight and reverence to you.
We ask this in the name of your Son,
Amen.

Blessings,
