Solar Power in Your Community

A Guide for Local Governments and Communities to Harness the Power of the Sun

Feb. 15, 2022
More and more communities across the United States are eager to support widespread solar energy adoption. But common barriers, like access to capital, limited land or rooftop availability, complex local policies, high soft costs, and lack of a skilled workforce, lie in their path. Fortunately, local governments are uniquely positioned to address many of these challenges.

The 2022 edition of Solar Power in Your Community serves as a guide for local government officials and stakeholders to help them overcome common barriers and maximize the benefits of solar for all in their communities.

This guide, produced by the U.S Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, offers an in-depth introduction to innovative strategies and technologies, case studies of real-world applications, and supplemental resources to improve the equity of solar deployment at the local level.
