Youth Homelessness Community Convening - Save the Date

The Detroit Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project (YHDP) Core Team, would like to invite you to a Community Convening to help develop Goals, Objectives and Action Steps for our YHDP Coordinated Community Plan. The team is looking for community stakeholders to share their experience and knowledge to help develop a comprehensive community plan to prevent and end youth homelessness in Detroit.

What is YHDP?
The YHDP is an initiative funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It consists of two parts: (1) a community planning process resulting in a coordinated community plan to prevent and end youth homelessness and (2) the development of new or expanded housing and support programs through HUD funding. A key aspect of both of these processes is shared leadership throughout the community and most importantly, with young people with lived experience of homelessness. In September 2021, Detroit was awarded $5.5 million as a Round 4/5 YHDP community.

What and when is the community convening?
The Action Planning Community Convening will focus on brainstorming goals, objectives and action steps for inclusion in a comprehensive Coordinated Community Plan to prevent and end youth homelessness in Detroit. The convening will take place on

Wednesday, February 23rd from 10AM - 12:30PM via Zoom
(The Homelessness Action Network of Detroit (HAND) will be sending out the invite separately, and CAM will forward it when available)

During the Convening, attendees will participate in facilitated sessions to learn more about YHDP and the vision for this work in Detroit, and you will be asked to provide input that will be incorporated into the plan.

What should I do if I can’t attend but have ideas to share? Can I invite others?
If you are not able to attend, you are welcome to forward this email and the forthcoming invitation with the Zoom link to friends or colleagues with expertise in this area. We encourage participation in the convening, but know it may not always be possible. If you cannot attend or send a representative, you can submit ideas through the survey here and we will follow up with you as needed.

I work with young people with lived experience who have ideas to share. Can I invite them? Will they be compensated?
Yes! Please feel free to forward this email and the invite to youth with lived experience in your programs or who you have worked with in other capacities. We are hoping to compensate as many youth as possible. We are finalizing the budget and can share more details about this soon. In the interim, you can contact any staff at HAND if you have additional questions – Kaitie (kaitie@handetroit.org), Nicole (nicole@handetroit.org), Tamara (tamara@handetroit.org), and Tasha (tasha@handetroit.org).
