The Second Sunday before Lent

Our readings today celebrate the glory and power of God the almighty and reflect images both of creation and chaos. God the creator, who created the earth and the creatures of the earth, also has the power to calm the storms and bring peace.

In the Gospel reading today from Luke 8.22-25, the scene is set on the Sea of Galilee. Jesus, tired after a busy day, is crossing the lake, as a mere passenger, in a small fishing boat and leaving his very competent disciples to take charge. The windstorm builds up and creates a crisis that they cannot manage. We sense their fear when they call to Jesus, as he sleeps soundly in the storm tossed boat. And yet Jesus is transformed as he exercises authority and majestically rebukes the wind and the waves with the power of God .

Interregnum Prayer

Lord, speak to us that we may hear your voice.
Move among us that we may behold your glory.

Receive our prayers that we may learn to trust you.  Amen

Celtic Blessing by Fiona Macleod

Deep peace, pure white of the moon to you.
Deep peace, pure green of the grass to you.
Deep peace, pure brown earth to you.
Deep peace, pure grey of the dew to you.
Deep peace, pure blue sky to you.
Deep peace, of the running wave to you.
Deep peace, of the flowing air to you.
Deep peace, of the quiet earth to you.
Deep peace, of the shining stars to you.
Deep peace, of the Son of Peace to you.

The World Day of Prayer
St John's Anglican Church in Territet
Friday, 4th March at 12h15

The World Day of Prayer falls this year on 4th March when the whole world uses the same service which takes 36 hours of celebration from Vanuatu to Alaska. This year the service is written by women from England, Wales and Northern Ireland and is entitled "I Know the Plans I Have for you". It is based on the letter that the Prophet Jeremiah wrote to the exiles in Babylon.

We will be joining members of the 5 churches along the lake: the Scots Kirk, Our Lady of Faith, All Saints Vevey, Christ Church and St John's Anglican Church in Territet who are hosting this year.

After the service we hope to have a buffet lunch when we can mingle with each other.

Please join us in this ecumenical service!

For more information and possibilities of travelling together please contact Sue Szymanski in church or via email at christchurchoffice@bluewin.ch.

Please join us online for a brief compline prayer liturgy led by Sophie & Jordan Johnson. You can follow the prayers by downloading the App here: Daily Prayer (chpublishing.co.uk)

This is an opportunity to slow down, reflect on the week, and be in prayer together. We hope that you can join us at 6:30pm on Thursdays via BlueJeans at https://bluejeans.com/340779695. Prayers will end at 7:00.

Lent reflection 2022

Our Lent group this year will explore the theme of Hope based on the book:
‘Hope and the Nearness of God’ by Teresa White FGJ Bloomsbury

We will be meeting online for three sessions on Tuesdays at 6.30 to 7.30 pm on 8th March, 15th March and 22nd March.

Hope is a word that we use freely but in these days of pandemic, war and political turbulence hope seems to be in short supply. Sister Teresa White’s book shows us that hope is not a matter of wishful thinking but is ‘born in us through God’s nearness, hope beckons us forward on our journey of faith.’ The author points out that hope is an especially appropriate theme for Lent, when we recall the suffering and death of Jesus, spurred on by the sure and certain hope of his resurrection.

The book is written with beautiful simpleness and directness drawing on inspiration from other writers, poets and artists whilst also using scripture to great effect.

I hope that you can join us!
