Athletic Updates

Spring Season:

Try-outs start today for the Following Teams/Clubs:

Baseball

Softball

Swimming

Weight Room

Boys Varsity Basketball

Finished with an overall record of 16 wins and 6 losses

Finished the season on a 5-game winning streak

Leading Scorer was David McCoy

Leading Rebounder was David McCoy

Leading 3 Pt shooter was Caleb Woodall

The Boys had a terrific season under the tutelage of Head Coach Gary Holbrook (5th season). Having 1 returning Cadet it was hard to find continuity early. As the season progressed and the team became more comfortable in the system the victories began to pile up. The team's defense was the glue that held everything together until the offense began to catch up. The team was very cohesive and while battling injuries and illnesses managed to use the next man up mantra and several Cadets stepped up. With so many Cadets eligible to return the future appears to be very bright.

Girls Varsity Basketball

Finished with an overall record of 10 wins and 3 losses

Finished the season on a 3-game winning streak

Leading Scorer was Hannah Parker

Leading Rebounder was Lexi Ballard

The Girls, with only 1 returning player, managed to squeeze out 10 wins in their 13 contests. Coach Jason Harkey did a great job of spreading the ball around early to get the team going. After starting off with 7 straight wins to begin the season the Girls lost 3 in a row before recovering and finishing the season on a 3-game winning streak. The team was very young and with most of the team eligible to return they should be even better next season.

Boys JV Basketball

Finished with an overall record of 17 wins and 3 losses

Leading Scorer was Anders Mitchell

Leading Rebounder was Austin Mitchell

Won the Holiday Classic Tournament over Greensboro Academy

Lost the Championship Game of the Oak Level Tournament to Union Grove by 1 at the buzzer

The JV Boys had a fantastic season led by Coach Bobby Allison. The team returned 3 starters from last year's team and the experience showed. The Boys played fast and it is the hope that they will be ready to move up and contribute next year with the Varsity team.

COVID Policy

Our goal at the academy is to always keep our cadets both safe and healthy. The mixed messages that we are receiving in reference to the COVID virus and its mutations are often very confusing and restricting.

Our current COVID testing protocol is to have the student or staff member tested if they are exhibiting symptoms. If this test proves to be positive that individual is then isolated for 5 days only after which (with no exhibited symptoms) they will be returned to their normal school function with a mask covering advised. Mask covering are the decisions of the student’s parents, not the Academy.

In summary , positive COVID test, 5 days isolation, no symptoms, then return to normal Academy functions.
