Video Editing in Windows 10

One of the most common requests for video is how to edit a section of a Zoom recording in the middle of a presentation.

While there is a simple way to trim the beginning and end of videos within Zoom, the only way to cut out a section or to cut your recording into multiple sections is to use a third-party video editing tool.

Luckily, the free photo app included in Windows 10 allows us to do exactly that. In this tutorial video, you will learn how to make simple edits to your videos.

Fun With Emails: Writing as Fictional Characters

Making English ‘fun’ can sometimes be a challenge when the content is dry. Take for example, the topic of writing a professional email. In the past, I would have students craft a professional email to me (as their teacher or as their employer) with a selection of ‘real-world’ scenarios - relevant but sometimes boring :(

This year, I decided to try something different. I had students practice professional email writing (subject, opening, concise body, and a closing) using Padlet. They were asked to craft a professional email from one fictional character to another. The stuff they came up with was gold!

Once students were done, I had them read the entries by their peers (who posted anonymously) and provide feedback on the email verbally. The feedback the students provided and suggestions for edits were right on point! After class, I had quite a few students private message me on Zoom or email me to thank me for such an engaging English class!

Virtual and HyFlex teaching can be difficult, but it also enables us to create uniquely interactive and engaging lessons. One of the challenges that faculty often face is the ability to assess students effectively.

The article below highlights suggestions for ways to incorporate formative assessment (practice activities) in a virtual class to enhance student success and participation.

It’s important to ensure that your students have 30% of their grades posted to eGrades prior to midterm advising week (March 14-18, 2022), as per the Academic Evaluation Policy. This allows students an opportunity to make critical decisions regarding their academic goals and reach out to an academic advisor if desired.
