BALANCED BUDGET

The Diaspora Education director and I will be finalizing the budget for the Homeward to My Heritage Speech Competition.  We received a generous donation from a former student last year to purchase ancestry testing and now we will be seeking an on campus grant to bring the speech competition to fruition. We are eager to be working on the overall project with Aggie Toastmasters.

We have been invited to takeover the Texas A&M's Instagram account and will be positing a day-long series of stories leading up to our event - West African Film Festival.  What a great opportunity that has been given to us...for the second time in three years!!!
DIRECTOR & SUBCO UPDATES
This sub-co serves to actualize the principles of collective work and responsibility by building and maintaining strong relationships with the campus community through viable co-programming.

YOU GOT GAME?

As the Ujima sub-committee and BSAC plan for the Barbecue we want to create a sense of community with the students and families. This year we plan to host a block party-style BBQ with fun interactive games and prizes. We are considering game ideas like dominos, spades, and Uno which are staples at cookouts and Black households. What games would you like to see at this year's BBQ? Tell us here.

This sub-co facilitates the commemoration of the federal holiday for Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to honor Dr. King’s legacy while fostering a campus environment that fulfills Dr. King’s inclusive dream for America

FACTS

We have worked with Student Life Studies (SLS) for several years to garner the audience experience of the MLK breakfast.  This assessment helps us to better understand audience experience and to improve future programs.  As we eagerly await this year's results, feel free to read the feedback about last year's program when we hosted Jane Elliott.

This sub-co embodies the African proverb that it takes a village to raise a child, it is our intent to provide a wide array of speakers and topics that enhance student development.

SOULFUL SUNDAY SERIES

Happy Valentine's Week! Come and show The Village some love by not forgetting to RSVP for our next Soulful Sunday. For members and potential members, The Village is beginning to plan 2022-2023 Soulful Sunday series. The Village will be getting back to the roots of Soulful Sunday, and we will, potentially, be partnering with some prestigious professionals in the community. So those interested in planning next year's Soulful Sunday please reach out to me or one of one of the MSC WBAC's executive chairs. msc.wbac.village@gmail.com. Soulful Sunday will continue to embody the African proverb, "it takes a village," by community building and networking. Remember to show some love and RSVP for Oni K. Blair! tx.ag/SoulfulSunday

WEST AFRICAN CUISINE

This week I’ll be meeting with MSC Marketing to brainstorm some  ideas for our Texas A&M University Instagram takeover. However, next week is West African Film Festival and we’re working on having authentic West African cuisine! The film we will be showing is “Love Castle” and is a story about how some people with disabilities may be treated within Nigerian culture.  RSVP below in Announcements section.
