Study Help 101

As we get closer to the end of the term, here are some free academic resources to help you finish strong.

  • Talk with your Academic Learning Assistant: Your hall has an on-site academic coach. If you haven't met your ALA yet, ask any residence hall staff member to connect you. Your ALA can do things like give you study tips or help you make a study plan to prep for finals.
  • Tap into the Academic Success Center: You can meet with academic coaches and strategists, find free tutoring and visit their online Learning Corner for resources. Learn more.
  • Get writing & research assistance: The Writing Center at Oregon State can help you with that big paper, give you research pointers, or correct your grammar. You can even submit a project online for feedback. Learn more.

Living on campus next year?

With winter term moving quickly, it's a good time to think about next year's living situation. Here are a few steps to keep you on track for campus housing:

  • Apply and contract: You can do both now! To be eligible to choose your own roommates and/or select your own living space on campus, you must apply and contract by March 30.
  • Online roommate matching: It's open now until April 1 at 5 p.m., so once you've applied and signed your contract, you can get started! Meet other students who are also planning to live on campus next year, or use the system to match with Beavs you already know.
  • Room selection: Watch your OSU email April 1 to learn your room selection date and time (it'll be between April 4 and April 15). Not sure where to choose? Learn more about second-year and above communities for 2022-23 at uhds.link/return2022.

Tip: If you hope to live in a suite-style building like Halsell, Tebeau, Bloss or the ILLC next year, try to form a roommate group with enough students to fill the entire suite. Students who have enough confirmed roommates in the online matching system to completely fill a suite will have the first opportunity to select suite spaces.

SAFETY SPOTLIGHT

Bike safety tips

Whether you already have a bike on campus or are planning to bring one for spring term — here are some helpful tips to ride safe and secure.

  • Safety first: Transportation Services encourages bicyclists to wear a well-fitting helmet, be bright with lights and reflectors, and practice safe riding habits. Watch this video to learn more.
  • Lock up: Transportation Services recommends two locks for your bike, preferably a U-lock for your frame and a cable lock for your wheels. Be sure to register your bike with Project 529 to assist law enforcement should your bike ever be stolen and found. There are also a limited number of bike lockers available for rent at Reser Stadium, Snell Hall and Plageman Hall.
