PTA Update - January 2022

Open PTA Board Positions - 2022/23

The 2022/23 school year will be here before we know it! And, with fingers crossed, we hope that it will be a wonderful year, full of school enrichment, events and community!

As many of the PTA board terms end next year, we need your help! The following board positions will be open for the 2022/23 school year:
President
Vice-President
Secretary
Co-Treasurer

We would love the opportunity to have the in-coming officers attend meetings prior to next year. If you are interested in volunteering in a leadership role or would just like to learn more about the PTA, please join us at our next meeting, March 15 at 6:30. on Zoom (or maybe in person?!). We'd also love to hear from you! Please reach out to ptaboard@protorterracepta.org.

Read-A-Thon Celebrations!

Congratulations! Our school collectively read 59,219 minutes (up from 54,791 minutes last year) and raised over $11,000 for our school! WOW!

As a school, we earned TWO Friday music party lunch recesses and 8 classes enjoyed a Tootsie Pop Party at dismissal after raising $500.

Our school wide Top Readers are:
Hazel H. from Johnson's 3rd grade who read 2,467 minutes!
Asher G. from Gude-Dunbar's 3rd grade who read 1,903 minutes!
Grace R. from Hiatt's 5th/6th grade who read 1,600!

These amazing readers will be celebrated on the TigerTalk sign AND receive gift certificates to Copperfield's Books and other locations.

24 of our students read over 1000 minutes, earning them a free ice cream scoop donated by Sandy's Pizza and the Top Reader for each class received a medal and certificate.

Top Reading Class: Mrs. Forrest's 1st grade class with 9641 reading minutes.

Top Fundraising Class: Ms. Drew's 2nd grade class, raising $1960.  They celebrated with a Pizza Party donated by Sandy's Pizza on Friday!

Thank you Sandy's Take and Bake Pizza for your generous support of our Reading for Kindness Read-a-Thon!

Walk-A-Thon Volunteers Needed

Historically, the Proctor Terrace Walk-a-Thon was the best event of the year according to students and parents! We need to keep it alive which means we need volunteers to help make that happen. Can you help?

Last year, the Tigers Across America walk-a-thon was a creative and fun virtual event with a variety of fun routes to take on organized fitness days, t-shirts, prizes, fundraising and exercise! It was a great time and could be duplicated again this year, or the event could take on a different look, depending on the vision of the committee. We've asked if there's a possibility to host the event on campus if desired which would increase the potential options for the event.

Please reach out to the ptaboard@proctorterracepta.org if you are interested in helping with this event in any capacity. Thank you in advance!!!

Garden Update

See your PTA fundraising efforts in action! Please read the latest garden update below.

All this Springlike weather has me itching to get back to garden classes, but it’s still going to be a few weeks yet. I’ve been working on our crop plans and starting plants for the garden classroom in my home greenhouse. The garden committee is also hard at work behind the scenes on the new Pollinator Habitat Garden.

Please mark your calendars for Saturday, February 26 to help install the gravel bike path through the Habitat Garden. This gravel path will allow students to access the bike cage from the Grosse Avenue side of the school WITHOUT popping their tires on pesky thorns.

It's going to be a MASSIVE undertaking, including removing 6" soil then, spreading and compacting gravel and shale. Please start talking it up with friends, family, neighbors - we will need A LOT of ADULT help (kids are still welcome but there will be equipment they cannot use). If you know of service organizations who might be interested, please reach out to them or reply back and let me know.

We will likely start early and it will be a full day. Signup Genius with volunteer time slots is coming soon and here is the flyer to start spreading the word!

The bike path and soil berm installation (March work day TBD) are needed before we can start planting our Native Pollinator Habitat Garden, hopefully in April! Take a look at the attached to see the vision for the space that will be a future outdoor teaching area for our students.

Thank you for your support,
Carla Barber & the Garden Committee

March (& Roll) for Miles this March!

This March, we challenge you to get outside and march - or roll - for miles! Walk or Roll to School (or anywhere) on as many days as you can during the month of March, and record where you went and how many miles you traveled on our March (& Roll) for Miles Tracking Sheet. All miles traveled must have a specific destination such as school, a park, neighbor's house, library, store, etc! Replace your car trips with March & Roll trips! Find out your mileage by using Google maps or asking an adult. Your submitted March (& Roll) for Miles Tracking Sheet is an entry for a drawing for a fabulous pair of sneakers! Click here to learn about this upcoming challenge and see how you can still participate in the current Walk & Roll for Our HeARTS.
