Weekend Plans in Macon, Jackson, and Swain Counties!

The Friday edition of our weekly newsletter will be dedicated to letting YOU know what is happening in and around Western North Carolina. For FREE businesses, churches, and organizations can send us their sales, operating hours, events, worship services, yard sales, you name it. Macon, Jackson, and Swain vote to end mask mandate for schools

While Macon County Schools have kept masks optional for most of the current school year, Jackson and Swain County School each voted this week to end their mask mandates and make face coverings optional, falling in line with Governor Cooper’s latest directive to school districts.

The Jackson County Board of Education voted unanimously to end the current mask mandate and make face coverings OPTIONAL effective Monday, February 21. The decision was based on the district’s rapidly improving COVID data as well as revised state guidelines that no longer require asymptomatic individuals to quarantine.

Food Pantries :
Franklin Covenant Church - Host a Free Lunch And Pantry Once a Month on the fourth Saturday of the month. It runs from 11:00 am until we either run out or there are no more people coming. It is a drive-through and to-go service. In addition to a free hot lunch, we give out dry goods and pantry supplies, like cleaning supplies, etc. We are NOT doing the pantry this month (January 29) due to the high possibility of inclement weather. We don't like to cancel, but its difficult for us to just reschedule for another Saturday due to the amount of coordination and other commitments our volunteers have.

Prentiss Church Food Pantry will be held on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2 to 5:30 p.m. The church is located at 59 Church Hill Lane. For more information, call (828)369-3885.

Holly Springs Baptist Church, 2nd Mile Ministry is open 10 to Noon Mondays providing a food pantry, children's clothes, and financial aid (rent and utilities) for families and seniors in need.

Five Fire Departments in Macon County – Nantahala, Cullasaja, Sky Valley, Clarks Chapel, and Burningtown – are open Monday thru Friday for drive-up food deliveries from 1 to 4 p.m. for anyone who needs food.

Parents Night Out! Bluff Creek Baptist Church Will Host a Parents Night Out On Saturday, February 2/19 From 4 pm- 7 pm - Drop off your children for a fun night of finger foods, games, crafts, music, and so much more!
