To anyone who has tried to reach me at david23lee@chaotopia.com:
This email is now working again, but it had been down since about October-November, due to my hiring a less-than-competent web developer (I've got a great one now) and there's no way I can recover the emails from that period.
I apologise to anyone who's still waiting for a reply - write to me again and I will reply straightaway, and compensate you for any inconvenience caused by this!

EVENTS

with MWCB

Magic, Witchcraft, Chaos and Beyond presents our Spring events:

The ideal work situation for many a magician is self-employment. We spend a large part of our daily life working, and a magical life is (among other things) one in which you find meaning and satisfaction in your daily life. The opposite is having what David Graeber called a bullshit job, one which produces nothing, wastes everyone’s time and degrades human relationships via pointless activities and hierarchies.

You are someone who has a great idea, or ideas. Maybe you’re an artist, a musician, a writer, or some other creator of physical things or digital services. Maybe you’re part of a community that will benefit hugely from your learning the skills of prosperity magic.

You may be in a job which you may or may not like, but would probably prefer to earn sufficient income from your own work to pack it in.

You may have the bare bones of a great business idea that needs fleshing out until it’s a plan, one that you can follow until you achieve your goals.

The course takes you through proven techniques from magic and practical psychology. You will have plenty of opportunity to practice and get feedback from me and the other students.

You can make a massive difference to your life in those six weeks. This course is not exactly a boot camp, but I assume that if you join it you’ll want to make time on most days, preferably every day of those weeks, to give it your best and really transform your prosperity.

The course will launch on Monday 23/3/22 - 27/4/22, at 20.00 GMT/BST and run for 6 sessions. The first one will be 1.5 hours, the rest 1 hour.
- Plus a dedicated Discord forum, and access to course videos throughout the course.

£65, with concessions - please enquire if you want to come on this course but need a lesser fee.

The final course in my series Qabalistic Pathworkings, The Supernals will launch on Monday 9/5/22 - 27/6/22, at 19.00 BST and run for 8 sessions. The first one will be 1.5 hours, the rest 1 hour.
Plus Discord forum, and access to course videos throughout the course.
£65, with concessions - please enquire.

To enrol for this live course, you need to have attended the first two parts - Journey to Tiphareth and The Magickal Triangle, in their live MWCB versions, OR if you missed those, you can now enrol for both courses at my Chaotopia School of Magic, combined as Qabalistic Pathworkings Parts 1 & 2

If you've done Part 1, Journey to Tiphareth, but not Part 2, The Magickal Triangle, you can enrol separately for the latter.
If you're out of pocket because of the offers involved, please email me and I'll compensate you.

New two-course Introduction to Chaos Magic: Part 1, Spells and Sigils.
We need Chaos Magick more than ever since the explosion of magickal thinking that has followed the lockdowns. People are getting into magick without a critical perspective, resulting in the current rash of deranged theories about what is happening. Chaos Magick provides multiple perspectives, a beacon of magickal sanity in a world gone mad.

Join this course and learn about belief as a technique, about the use of extraordinary states of consciousness (gnosis) and discuss theories old and new as to what makes magic work.

But mainly come along to make spells using powerful sigils, in this two-part workshop with me. We’ll talk about what we need to do a spell then explore a variety of approaches to making sigils - including graphic mashups, mantras and the idea of the artwork as hypersigil.

This mini-course consists of two two-hour sessions, 4th & 11th May, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. £50

Part 2: Servitors and Spirits will run in October 2022, but if you want to be sure of enrolling for both Chaos Magic courses, you can book now
In this second introductory Chaos Magick course we’ll be working with spirits. We’ll be starting by assembling helper spirits tailored to your own requirements - what chaos magicians call servitors. Then we’ll explore spirits that exist ‘out there’ in the collective mind, which we can invoke, or ‘call into ourselves’. This includes Gods and Goddesses, ‘culture heroes’ and even characters from fiction and popular culture whose powers are useful to us. Join me in choosing a deity or character which we’ll then invoke!

We’ll take a peek at the theory behind such magic and we’ll continue exploring simple but powerful techniques for entering appropriate extraordinary states of consciousness.

This mini-course consists of two two-hour sessions.

OCT 05TH 2022 - OCTOBER 12, 2022
Oct 5th 2022 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Oct 12th 2022 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
£50

Introduction to Energy Magic part 1 will run in November 2022 but tickets are now on sale.
Do you know how to project healing energy from your hands? Over the years of my coaching Connected Breathwork my clients and I had numerous experiences of sensed energy, and I developed techniques for raising and directing that energy.

You can raise and entrain sensed energy, also known as chi, prana and athm, for healing and for other magical operations. In this course we’ll practice breath patterns for raising energy and  techniques for deploying it outside your body, such as energy portals, and the group energy patterns known as Chaotrons.

This course will be followed next year by Part 2, which will consist of explorations of internal sensed energy practices and energy alchemy.

NOV 09TH 2022 - NOVEMBER 16, 2022
Nov 9th 2022 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Nov 16th 2022 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

PUBLICATIONS, INTERVIEWS, BLOGS

One of my publishers, Mandrake of Oxford, did a newsletter special on my work, with an interview, see above.

The Blame Blake video is now out! A record by professional filmmaker Andrew Musgrave of that day last August when Sheffield was treated to a day of art and poetry and magick inspired by and in celebration of William Blake. It was one of those intensely magickal days which strengthen a scene and create inspiration for further creations. Check it all out!

The film is structured by performers, featuring interviews with @johnhiggs @cloudbolt23 @dleeahp @KaliGeo @bengrahamwriter @shlab_sheffield and many more. After each interview, we see the film of their performance. I’m on at 35.02, doing my first ever performance poem We Are All In Chapel Perilous, complete with magic hat and vitki trousers. This bit of verse is a recognition of how we’re confused and alarmed by world events, leading us to a stage recognized by magicians - the Chapel Perilous within which our comfortable ideas of ourselves and the world get shaken apart. That’s the point where we may adopt magickal thinking and, with a bit of rational thinking to counterbalance the tendency to go overboard, we may start on a magickal path. Without that touch of scepticism, we may become prey to the rash of demented theories that are currently on offer.

… we really don’t know much for sure

So it’s far healthier to stay unsure

And not get stuck in one belief

So ‘BS’ won’t bring us to grief

We’re all in Chapel Perilous

So let’s have a caring thought for us

Let’s help each other stay aware

As part of what we do to care

Rune-Poems: The Reawakened Tradition. Most of our knowledge of the meanings of the runes comes from the mediaeval rune-poems, AngloSaxon, Icelandic and Norwegian. This is a collection of new translations of those, and of a previously little-known Swedish poem, plus  rune-poems by contemporary runic magicians. Including myself - both my Elder and Younger Futhark poems are in here.

Here's a verse from my Younger Futhark Rune-Poem, dedicated to those who might need it in these challenging and confusing times:

NAUTH    ᚾ nauðr ("need")

Need’s the fire ‘neath wizard’s pot

Nightside art’s the poor man’s sword, when

Naught’ll do but sculpt a lot and

Nail his soul to carven board.

Narrowed fire is fierce, do not

Neglect the power of straitened word.

Nothing breaks the grip of lack like

Need itself turned on its back.

Review of Wolf-Dieter Storl’s Far Out In America on my brand-new blog!
Storl’s memoir is of a highly resourceful wanderer, and covers the period usually referred to as ‘the 60s’.

23 AND A BIT

Diamond Jim of Festival 23 interviews the brilliant and highly magickal Grant Morrison about all sorts of things.

Tim Holmes (The Buddhist Punk) has got a new collection of poems out. Tim is a performance poet who has graced many Discordian events including Blame Blake. The poems are from two decades; compiled during the lockdowns, the book reflects our weird and interesting times. There's also some artwork by Max Charles.
Tim's poems are down-to-earth diction shot through with militant compassion. Here's the end of Grief is Love Persevering:

Loss makes us re-evaluate
To see beyond the veil
To connect with each other
Once and for all
We need to grieve on a planetary scale

If I had to define what he is offering us, I'd say it is weaponised hope.

Jimmy Cauty's dystopian model village experience Estate, possibly the best artwork in the UK at the moment, resumes its tour at The Triangle, in Bournemouth BH2 5SE, 1st March - 3rd April.
I have fond, if hungry, memories of Bournemouth from my youthful period of wandering the land with no money. The Triangle used to feature a cafe where I longed to eat.
They're doing an opening event - Art School Disco, Friday 4th March, 6:30-11pm.
Jimmy Cauty & The L-13 Light Industrial Orchestra present a brand-new audio visual experience: Wall of Death videos, plus live guest DJs. Tickets available here

PSYCHEDELIA

Here are a few links and preliminary thoughts on psychedelic healing, which I'll be extending into a blog piece.

Pioneers of psychedelic psychotherapy in a recent one-hour podcast - Stanislav Grof, who was tripping and healing back in the 1950s, and Brigitte Grof.

The marketing at the start of that podcast refers to legal access to psychedelic healing experiences in some centre somewhere. That reminds me of a recent series called Nine Perfect Strangers on Amazon Prime. When I first noticed this I really didn’t think it would be my kind of thing. But friends advised me otherwise, and I’d agree - watch it. It's about psychedelic psychotherapy, and asks some interesting questions - even if psychedelic therapy is conducted in a dubious, non-consensual fashion, does it do more harm than conventional medicine?

Psychedelic medicine is definitely mainstream now. Even respectable academia - Johns Hopkins university for instance - wants data from people who have been doing this illegally for decades. From us freaks, in other words. You might want to do this survey:

Have you used psychedelics/MDMA to help anxiety, depression, trauma, or PTSD? Johns Hopkins researchers, in collaboration w/ Erowid, seek responses to an anonymous #research survey. Must be 18+.

Psychedelic medicine also raises the possibility that we have to go much deeper, and higher, than we think, if we want to heal. We cannot afford to sideline ecstasy and 'mystical' experience. In The Psychedelic Trojan Horse, Alexander Beiner asks:

But what if your culture can’t help you contextualise your experience, because it doesn’t have space for the sacred and transcendent? Here lies the problem of psychedelic capitalism.

Again, what if none of these models fits for us? What are we doing when we trip? What is it about?
More musings to follow.

MAGICK

Yes, he's ninety-bloody-five! I love it when weird people survive and thrive that long. Carl Abrahamsson of The Fenris Wolf fame, his fine documentary Cinemagician - Conversations with Kenneth Anger. Anger talks about his life, his films, his approaches to filmmaking, and his relationship to Aleister Crowley.

"Consciousness cannot be reduced to the physical". Bernardo Kastrup tells us how consciousness cannot be reduced to matter, in just 3 and a half minutes. Watch it and weep, you devotees of physicalist Scientism.

Julian Vayne's My Magical Thing stars (pun) Michael Staley of the Typhonian Order and Starfire. Julian's 5-minute interviews about magical objects are wonderful capsules of magickal practice in the present day, and in this one we also get to see and hear about an actual physical object that appeared out of the pregnant void. Yes, an apport, a thingie that turns up because it's magickally appropriate for it to do so. That actual thingie he is holding. Wow, and more fucking wow. Go watch, and wonder at the mystery.

For those who love Irish myth, how about a few facts to make it even better?

PHILOSOPHY / COSMIC STUFF

Do you want to know if we're living in a simulation? This is a big theme these days, people are getting serious about it. Those who've been following Lionel Snell, aka Ramsey Dukes, aka Angerford and Lea, will have read all about this stuff back on the mid-1970s, when Lionel coined Johnstone's Paradox: If simulation of a world and conscious experience is possible, then it is likely to have already happened. And therefore the odds are we're living in one.

Nobody ever credited Lionel for that pioneering concept, but they're going to spend at least a quarter of a million bucks trying find out if it's true. You can contribute at the link in the pic. Although maybe our meta-world owners will turn us off when we work out what's going on.

VIDEOS, MUSIC, ART

Some great music & imagery by a bunch of magicians, check it out! The Devil & The Universe - Viva! Goatopia - Official Promo Video.

One of the classics of the William S Burroughs world, The Cut-Ups, done with Anthony Balch, with whom he also made Towers Open Fire. 19 minutes of rhythmic, attention-grabbing time-travel.

Moondog is one of those names I heard a long time ago but only recently checked out. Didn't realise he was fascinated by runic mysteries. Check out this lovely composition Runic Writing, played by a German ensemble who love his music.

This last item I'm putting here for no more reason than it is one of the most beautiful artefacts I've ever seen. Imagine drinking the sacrament from that, two and half thousand years ago...
