SAFELY riding your bike to the beach from Mossman will soon become a reality.

Wonga Beach-based company, Colpo Constructions, will start work on stage two of the Mossman-Cooya Beach Cycleway from Monday 21 February 2022.

Douglas Top 2 LGA By Growth In Migration for 2021

THE Local Government areas that experienced the strongest annual growth in migration from capital cities in the full 2021 calendar year are all in Queensland and South Australia. 
Douglas Shire came in second on the list with a 49% growth as reported by the Regional Movers Index

Planned Road Works on Port Douglas Road

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be carrying out asphalt resurfacing works on Port Douglas Road at Agincourt Street roundabout and Lakeland Avenue/ Avenue of Palms roundabout from 17 March 2022

Daintree Ferry Temporary Closure - May 2022

The Daintree ferry service will cease at 10pm on Friday 6 May 2022 and resume at 5am on Monday 9 May 2022.

  • Four new solar operated, radar speed alert signs are being installed in the Douglas Shire
  • Footpath Renewal Program 2020-2025 continues, the objective being to improve safety and connectivity to sections of footpaths around the Shire
  • Tree planting continues at Mossman Showground, Front Street and George Davis Park.
  • Nursery operations are busy preparing native tree species for the numerous revegetation projects scheduled throughout the shire
  • Council's Biosecurity team are developing an annual beach foreshore weed management program for all beaches within the shire.

Council's Environmental Health team have:
  • Approved 5 new food licence applications for businesses located in Mossman, Cooya Beach, Port Douglas, Wangetti & Diwan
  • Provided advise to 6 new potential applicants for operating mobile food vehicles at markets, events, private property and roadside vending. 
  • Provided advise to 3 potential applicants for personal appearance services (cosmetic tattooing/ piercing).
