PROF MARKS APPEALS TO THE DUT COMMUNITY TO BECOME INVOLVED WITH THE BELLHAVEN HARM REDUCTION CENTRE
The Durban University of Technology’s Prof Monique Marks, who currently heads up the Urban Futures Centre (UFC), and her women-led team are no strangers to receiving accolades and awards for their projects. The Urban Futures Centre at DUT (UFC@DUT) is based in the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment. It serves as the central node for a network of projects, institutions, practitioners and academics involved in the future of cities locally and internationally. Their work focuses on improving the quality of life of the most marginal in our society through engaged research.
BET SOFTWARE WELCOMES NINE DUT GRADUATES INTO THEIR GRADUATE PROGRAMME
Nine graduates from the Durban University of Technology (DUT) kick started their careers with BET Software in Umhlanga, Durban, on 1 February 2022.
These graduates will spend a year as part of BET Software’s Graduate Programme which is paid work experience, where they will learn about all aspects of the company.
They have a set out work plan for the twelve months ahead, which includes learning soft skills, business skills, financial literacy, whilst getting to know BET Software’s core products and being mentored by an allotted BET Software Team Member.
DUT’S BTECH ENGINEERING GRADUATES RETAINS TITLE OF BEING TOP GRADUATES COUNTRYWIDE
Flying the Durban University of Technology (DUT) flag high are two BTech Engineering graduates, Mr Tristin Noel Stainbank and Ms Veroshini Govender who were recently awarded the Institute of Professional Engineering Technologists (IPET) Award for being the top two BTech Engineering graduates in South Africa.
The IPET National BTech Engineering Excellence Awards were recently held at the School of Tourism and Hospitality in the University of Johannesburg.
DUT RUGBY TO TAKE PART IN THE FNB VARSITY SHIELD TOURNAMENT ONCE AGAIN
Competing for the second consecutive year, the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) rugby team, DUT Rugby will be taking part in South Africa’s second tier university rugby tournament, the FNB Varsity Shield 2022.
The tournament is set to commence on the 4th of March 2022. The DUT rugby team will play their first game of the tournament against Round 1 and 2 hosts, FNB Rhodes in Makhanda, Eastern Cape. All games will be broadcast live on SuperSport (DStv channel 211) and will simulcast on the largest SuperSport Channel, 209.
PROVIDING ESSENTIAL SERVICES TO THE DUT COMMUNITY IN THE TIMES OF A PANDEMIC
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) continues to commend all its essential workers for their dedication and commitment in providing services to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. DUT’s Communications team’s Waheeda Peters spoke to Ms Nerina Reddy, a Desktop Consultant in the Client Services section within the Information and Communication Technologies Services (ICTS) department.
Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “I am currently a Desktop Consultant in the Client Services section within the Information and Communication Technologies Services (ICTS) department. I assist the DUT staff community with all desktop related support and I am based at the ML Sultan Campus.”
