News and opportunities for members

There's still time to book your tickets to this year's Visit York Tourism Awards. The 'tourism OSCARS of the north' takes place at York Racecourse on Thursday 3rd March 2022, sponsored by LNER. Tickets for the glamorous black-tie event can be booked here. We look forward to celebrating with you all! 
Last month, we announced that York Ice Trail 2022 would transport visitors and residents ‘Around the World’ with the theme of this year’s sculptures. With one month to go until over 40 spectacular ice sculptures line York’s streets on the 5th and 6th March, you can now see a sneak peak of the first sculpture from this year's trail. Use the quieter periods to refresh & update your city knowledge and book a session with our Visitor Information Experts - the perfect opportunity for all hospitality sectors to pick up some tips to share with guests and customers. As interest in physical meetings and events returns, we’re exploring domestic trade show opportunities to promote York as a vibrant MICE destination to the business events sector. To find out more about joining us at trade shows in Leeds (May '22) and London (June '22), please contact eleanor.bryson@makeityork.com  
We're working on bringing a showcase of music, food, dance and comedy to enjoy throughout the streets of York, showcasing local business and talent this spring. To submit your Platinum Jubilee event and appear in our Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee page, log in to the Visit York business login > Select Events > Manage Events > Create Event > Submit your event details as explained here, and ensure in the categories tab that you select ‘Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee’ event category type, along with any other relevant event category type > Submit your listing for approval and once it has been approved it will appear in this page. Join us for a guided tour of England’s only self-built whisky and gin distillery, situated in picturesque countryside 10 miles north of York on the 2nd March. Discover the adventurous story behind the Cooper King Distillery, understand how sustainable spirits are made and enjoy a guided tasting session in the cosy tasting room and shop. On Friday 4th March, join us from 6pm for the official launch event for York Ice Trail 2022 at Middletons. There'll be canapes, fizz and a York Gin bar to start off the celebrations. There'll even be an opportunity to get up close to one of the ice sculptures! Spaces are very limited, so please sign up for your ticket here.

Foodies rejoice! Restaurant Week is back, organised by York BID. The much-loved week in the city's calendar will take place between the 7th - 13th March 2022. From afternoon tea's to three course dinners, if you're wanting your business to take part, you can register your interest here.

IT ReUse, a local technology recycling scheme which takes unwanted tech and refurbishes it for new use in the community, are actively seeking donations of used laptops, phones and tablets to help the 9% of York residents who don’t have access to technology and the internet get equipped and online safely. A new application scheme is open to support York Businesses impacted by the pandemic. You can click here to read the eligibility criteria and find the application form to apply for these new Omicron Hospitality and Leisure grants.

This year, St Leonard's Hospice is looking for teams of up to six to take part in The Accumulator Challenge. Teams will be loaned £30 and the challenge is to auction, fundraise, invest, run and organise your way to the biggest profit in 30 days.
