We are thrilled to announce the provision of 3 full-time scholarships for children under our care in the unique educational community of Athens College, that is transforming lives and inspiring dreams. The collaboration between Athens College and The HOME Project has been carried out with the generous support of three individual donors, the school’s administration and teachers who supported and prepared children for the entrance exams.

R., a young adult, who arrived some years ago from Congo as a lone refugee minor at one of our shelters has finally reunited with his mother in France, following the continuous efforts of our legal team. Moments like these warm our hearts but also remind us that all children and youth have the right to be reunited with their families. Access to legal aid and representation constitutes an integral and vital part of our work.

Jawed a 20 year-old boy from Afghanistan, arrived alone in one of our shelters four years ago. During his stay, he has been granted a full time student scholarship at ACS Athens (American Community Schools), learned English and Greek, while cultivating his talent in the arts. Today, as an independent adult, he is a member of The HOME Project staff, working as an interpreter in our shelters. We are very proud of him and his example inspires us to continue our efforts to provide equal access to education and employment opportunities for children and youth under our care.

A key priority of our mission is to empower our staff to continuously improve child protection services they provide to children under our care. Through experiential learning, simulations and role playing exercises all staff members learn how they can contribute effectively in creating and enabling, positive and supportive environments.

Partnerships

The ultimate aim of our child protection model is the integration of youth under our care into society. Our vocational and technical training supported by Al Madad Foundation aims to promote social inclusion by ensuring access to equal opportunities and enabling youth employability.

Together with Boroume NGO our staff accompany children under our care and collect every week fresh fruits and vegetables which remain unsold at the farmer markets of Athens. This is a win-win opportunity to both combat food waste and cover a significant part of food provision for children and youth under our care.

We are grateful to Marianna Kakaounaki and Kathimerini for showcasing our work and sharing the provision of 3 full-time scholarships in the 1st class of Athens College Gymnasium to children under our care.
