Time goes by and it's already February,
Wherever you are in the world I wonder if you feel the climate changing?
Here there is hardly any winter...
no rain
...
a winter draught
...
while in Brazil floods are overwhelming the country
...
The climate is definitely changing
all around us
and it has been happening for a while.
On a personal level, it's hard to complain when the sun shines every day
but in a global sense, it seems like we have to be fast
and find ways in which we can each reduce our carbon footprint.
It ain't so hard but not so easy either as we are creatures of habits...:/
So what to do?
These times require our attention, investigation, and awareness.
Remembering that less is actually more
(Less consumption= more time on this planet..?)
Understanding our consumer choices and power
and helping each other to reach
collective awareness and look for more sustainable ways
to help us change habits.
Good luck to us all
cause it looks like the planet can't wait for us forever...
We need to Act!

O conceito de ecoperformance foi cunhado pela coreógrafa brasileira Maura Baiocchi como parte da inauguração de um novo ciclo de trabalhos da Taanteatro Companhia. Segundo palavras da Taanteatro a Ecoperformance entende o ambiente e o corpo como dimensões inseparáveis da criação performativa. Em uma ecoperformance, o ambiente constitui um jogo vivo e interativo de presenças e forças onde o artista não é o agente central, mas um dos componentes da performance. A mesa debaterá esse conceito e suas práticas além de suas ações de impacto político, tão necessário em nosso tempo.

Butoh Class / Mini Workshop with me

GOOD NEWS! BUTOH Brighton will be teaching regularly at Brighton Natural Health Centre. We = Mim King, Yumino Seki and I plan to run regular once a month, Sunday evening, Butoh classes, commencing 30th January 2022. I'll be teaching on the 20th of February 6 pm - 8 pm
A monthly evening class exploring Butoh dance through imagery, presence, awareness, and the tension between opposites.
The aim is to free the body from its mundane preconceived set of gestures in order to access a deeper and more authentic essence of movement and archetypal expression.
You will gain freedom and a way into working with your imagination in a creative and deep embodied way.
Suitable for complete beginners and those with experience in performing arts, acting, dance & movement.

Yael Karavan tem mais de 20 anos de experiência, durante os quais teve a oportunidade de trabalhar com os fundadores do Butoh no Japão: Kazuo Ohno e Motofuji San - esposa de Tatsumi Hijikata - bem como com Tadashi Endo, Yumiko Yoshioka, Sankai Juku, Atsushi Takenuchi, Minako Seki, Akira Kasai, Natsu Nakajuma entre outros.
Os principais elementos que serão trabalhados na oficina são: metamorfose, presença, contraste, expansão da dança através de imagens (Buoth- Fu) e tensão entre opostos. Explorando o mistério do espaço vazio, espaço entre - Espaço 'MA'
O objetivo é libertar o corpo “domesticado” do conjunto de gestos e movimentos preconcebidos permitindo o acesso à profunda e autêntica essência do movimento.

14 APRIL (Thursday) Arrival
*Site Specific Performance by Marlene, Sara & Yael (open to public)

*Talk with the artists
15, 16, 17 APRIL (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

*3 hours workshop in the morning
Lunch Break
*3 hours workshop in the afternoon
*1 hour co-creation of the final performance, artists with participants.
Dinner Time
* Friday night we celebrate a JAM
* Sunday evening sharing the 3 performances created during the retreat (open to public). Then a dinner, fading into a celebration for being reborn.
* Every artist will give 6 hours workshop in total, everyday is shared into 2 artists we receive workshops from.
* For the co-creation and final performance we will split into 3 groups, each group will be led by one of the artist. On the last evening we will share our creations with the rest of the participants, open to audiences joining from outside.
